Rescuers believe it wasn’t difficult to figure out why a ten-year-old Newfoundland mix was abandoned on the side of the road in Columbia, South Carolina. When Animal Control found him on Monday morning, the dog now dubbed Redford, had a ruptured tumor on his side. Rescue Dogs Rock NYC offered to help when called.
“We love seniors and believe they deserve not only proper medical care, but also dignity and respect,” posted rescue co-founder Jackie O’Sullivan on the organization’s Facebook page along with graphic photos of the dog in obvious pain. “First goals are to get him on pain meds and antibiotics to manage pain and infection and then to see what’s going on with the underlying tumor.”
Within an hour, Redford was on his way to the organization’s partner emergency veterinarian. His preliminary examination indicates he has another tumor which has not ruptured. At this time, he is being shaved in preparation for surgery. Surprisingly, the dog is heart worm negative – which gives him a slight edge in his uphill battle to survive. The staff at the veterinarian hospital describe this dog as incredibly sweet and friendly. Shame on the owners who most likely deserted him.
Updates on Redford will be provided as soon as possible. PayPal: Donate@rescuedogsrocknyc.org or www.rescuedogsrocknyc.org/donate/ or mail: RDR NYC PO BOX 101 NY NY 10028.
