The saddest update has been made about a battered pit bull who was discovered on a woman’s porch in Georgia after Hurricane Irma blew through the area. The dog, named “Duncan,” was just adopted last week – on Tuesday, LifeLine Animal Project had made a special announcement about the dog who just wanted to be loved:
Duncan came into our care with scars and wounds all over his body. We have no idea what happened in his past, but we do know it wasn’t good. The minute we laid eyes on his precious face, we knew he was special.
We are so happy to share that today Duncan found his people! Thanks to your support, Duncan will live in a family home, where he will spend his nights snuggling in the bed and his days giving lots of big slobbery kisses. We couldn’t be happier for this sweet boy!
A few short days later, his new family let Duncan’s fans know that the lovable dog had died. In an update to GoFundMe, Duncan’s people wrote:
Duncan contracted a bacterial infection as a result of his many bite wounds prior to his time in the shelter, and unfortunately this infection overtook him in the aftermath of his neutering and move to our home. He received wonderful care and attention from BluePearl Veterinary Partners – Westside. My boyfriend and I were with him, snuggled up in his bed, as he crossed the rainbow bridge late on Sept. 29th.
Adding:
He knew love, kindness, and safety, if only for a short time.
We are so grateful for the time we had with Duncan, and for the friends he made at LifeLine Animal Project and around the country. We believe the best way to honor his memory is to open our home to another sweet doggie in need. Your donations to Duncan’s veterinary care costs will make that possible for us.

RIP Duncan …….. You knew you were a special, beloved family member before you passed away (waaaaaaay too soon for everyone who loved you)……. Please look for MacKitty in Heaven and he will introduce you to his snuggle pals……..
So sorry to read about Duncan, for his short time with this family he received so much love that many dogs never get the chance to have. He was a special dog from this hurricane and hope you can find another dog equally deserving as Duncan was. That would be a wonderful legacy for Duncan.
RIP Duncan you will be sadly missed but never forgotten xxxx
Sad to hear this. So why do surgery to alter a dog who is already compromised? Sorry people disappointed you pup[.
So sad that Duncan lost his fight but for the short amount of time he had with his new family. he experienced, love, hugs and knowing the warm feeling of those who loved him, something that many dogs never get the chance to experience. Thanks for giving Duncan a loving home and family. Know you will miss him, but you have to opportunity to help others who are just like him and also need a warm, loving home.
RIP Duncan, so sorry you found real love too late run free my darling.
This is not how we wanted to hear this story end. RIP Duncan. We thought you had grabbed the brass ring after all. Heaven has gained a sweet angel.
R.I.P. Duncan
Cross over the Rainbow Bridge, and run through fields of tall grass
Run through soft trails between tall trees
When you become weary, lie down in the restful shade
Slake your thirst at deep pools of clean water that has never been fouled by humans
Play with the friends you will meet there
You will never be hurt again
Thank you to Duncan’s people – because of you, this baby knew what love was, and you were with him when he passed away.
That is a gift beyond price!
