Sad little Grace Anne: No one adopts her because she’s ‘ugly’

Had Grace Anne been full of baby fur with fluffy little paws and a curled up tail, potential adopters would have stopped at her kennel the moment they saw her. Puppies have the easiest time finding homes – even at the overcrowded Harris County Animal Shelter located in Houston, Texas.

‘”Grace Anne’ is just a baby. Like our friend Gregory last month, she doesn’t know she is ugly. She just knows that no one stops to look at her. Do you see her? She’s 4 months old. She craves love. Easily treatable demodex mange. Adoptable or donate for rescue and offer to foster.”

Shame on the person who called this four-month-old Grace Anne their puppy before she became sick and tossed her away like an old shoe. According to the shelter, the mastiff mix is so very itchy. Her skin has turned bright pink, she’s nearly bald and what’s left of her coat has turned yellow. Demodex is a common infestation of a puppy’s skin comprised of tiny, cigar shaped, eight legged mites that live and feed in the hair follicles and oil glands. Aside from the mange, GraceAnne also has a secondary skin infection that will have to be treated.

Click here for the puppy’s Pet Harbor listing. “I am a female, tan Mastiff. The shelter staff think I am about 9 weeks old. I have been at the shelter since Jun 20, 2017.” For more information about this animal, call Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services at (281) 999-3191

    • I agree. I see nothing but beauty when I look at her. She just needs someone to treat her skin condition so she will be comfortable ! I can’t stand that animals are suffering all over the place; there just isn’t enough help. Someone local to her, please get her out of there!

  1. OMG! This poor little precious soul! How utterly heartbreaking that she is all alone and suffering!!! How I wish I could save her and get her the care that she so,so desperately needs! THERE HAS TO BE A RESCUE OUT THERE WILLING TO HELP SAVE THIS PRRCIOUS HELPLESS,INNOCENT BABY! PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD HELP THIS PRECIOUS LITTLE SWEETHEART!! PLEASE

  2. How can humans be so heartless and say Grace Anne is ugly. She has a treatable skin disease just like humans who have shingles or eczema. Guess they turn their nose against these humans also. The one disease that far worse than mange or shingles is the disease that fills their heart and soul. These lil ones didn’t ask to have these skin diseases but it happens. She still feels with her heart. At least she isn’t looking down on humans. Wish I could get her because she deserves to be loved.

  3. Poor Baby, please help her find a Loving home and I sure hope the Owner who let this happen gets PUNISHED!!!!

    • I run Harris County Animal Shelter Volunteers which is where that post came from. Marketing 101. We deliberately used that word, and it exploded in shares. The dog is saved and we now have four new rescues that all wanted to save her that are now applying to save dogs from Harris County. Everyone wins. We weren’t being serious. We wouldn’t work so hard to save them all if we actually though my the dog was ugly or not worth saving.

  4. Poor thing, I so hope someone comes to help soon, it is just heartbreaking, wish I lived next door, I’d be there…thanks for taking care, I think Grace is beautiful

  5. REMEMBER THE UGLY DUCKLING THAT TURNED INTO A SWAN!!!! Given the chance Gracie will also BE A SWAN >>> Harris County is one place in TEXAS that should be wiped off the MaP of Livable and Suitable places to live in that Hell Hole State of Texas…. I hope Gracie can get out alive…..

  6. I wish I could take this treasure. She should be a beloved family member……

Praying she finds a furever home ASAP!!!!!

Has anyone contacted Rescue Dogs Rock? She seems to be the type of rescue they take.

  7. You know I lived the first 20 years of my life in the panhandle of texas one of the more uninhabitable areas of the state. when I left, I left for good. on visits back it was almost like someone slipped a spanx total body garment over my. I could actually feel the constriction of the ultra conservancy that may even pollute the air. anyway, I now live in florida, have a home in the country. have always had dogs and would gladly take this little girl into my home but I suppose it would be too much trouble to read an out of state adoption offer and then help arrange transportation. some shelters would just as soon euthanize.

  8. THIS PUPPY IS BEAUTIFUL AND ONCE SHE REGROWS HAIR AGAIN YOU SEE HOW MANY ADOPTERS ARE LINED UP FOR HER. WHOEVER CALLED HER UGLY IS UGLY THEMSELVES.

  9. Honey bunch you are beautiful, the people who abandoned you are the ugly ones. Their heart, soul and mind are ugly. Sharing for your life and freedom. With God help you will find a loving home.

    • 6/22 9pm update! “Grace Ann” has an adoption hold! Keep watching til she is out. She is scheduled to be picked up next week by her family, after surgery. Fingers crossed that this adoption hold sticks!

  10. She’s only a baby and ugly is not what comes to mind when i look at her she is adorable ! What I do see is that she should be under medical care to treat her skin condition so she can begin to feel better and find that forever she so deserves!

    • I am so happy for this lil one. They all deserve a second chance or better yet a REAL first chance of having a home filled with love. I believed in sharing to touch someone’s heart and I’m glad I saw this story of her. Believing, sharing love, and see the good news from it. Thank you all for what you do.
