An RSPCA England and Wales Christmas video about an abandoned toy puppy has gone viral – and in a good way. The video, released less than 12-hours ago as the “Kindness for Christmas” appeal, has garnered 300,000 views on Facebook and 70,000 times on Twitter including thousands of “shares.”

The endearing video begins with a little boy receiving a toy puppy named Woody for Christmas. Soft and cuddly, the child sleeps with Woody, plays with and loves the stuffed toy – that is until he is no longer interested in his dog and leaves it lying on a piece of play equipment at the park. When the once cuddly dog now seen as dirty and regarded as trash is thrown away, he is soon rescued by the RSPCA.

“We rescue, rehabilitate and re-home dogs just like Woody every day, all year round,” states Deborah Caffull, manager of the charity’s Birmingham animal center where part of the video was filmed. “While this video shows the tale of a toy dog, the sentiment behind the story is very real.”

Sadly, Christmas time is a very busy time for animal rescue organizations, and it is hoped this video will bring more awareness to the plight of the abandoned, neglected and abused pets who cannot speak for themselves.

You may want to check back with your favorite pages on occasion because Facebook often changes your settings, no longer having your having your favorites among those to “see first.”

  1. My my, how true. After the newness wears off, they are discarded. There is no such thing as a disposable pet. Think about your commitment before you adopt your pet.
