Christopher Gorman, 54, of Killearn Crescent, Plains, was sentenced at Airdire Sheriff Court today (24 October). Gorman was found guilty of failing to provide veterinary treatment to two mastiff pups suffering from parvo virus, deliberately striking dogs in his care with a length of timber, and failing to ensure a suitable environment, namely providing adequate shelter, warmth and access to appropriate food and water. Commenting on the investigation and court case, an undercover Scottish SPCA Inspector said, “Gorman has a long history of disregarding the welfare of the animals in his care. “Earlier this year Gorman was sentenced to a 6 month restriction of liberty, a 10 year ban from owning animals and received a £500 fine for trading puppies without a licence. “This case has highlighted his ongoing cruelty and we’re delighted that he has been dealt with by the courts. “The mastiff type puppies were suffering from parvo virus which is an excruciatingly debilitating illness which can in some cases result in death. “To not seek veterinary treatment for these pups despite their obvious distress shows Gorman’s priorities lay entirely in the profit that could be gained from selling on puppies to naïve new owners, rather than in the welfare of the dogs. “Furthermore, the evidence showed Gorman’s violent behaviour towards these dogs. He can clearly be seen hitting them with a stick, all whilst being content to leave them in less than suitable living conditions.” Picture: Universal News And Sport (Scotland) 24/10/2017

A millionaire in North Lanarkshire, Scotland has been banned for life from ever owning any animals. On Tuesday, the unlicensed dog breeder, Christopher Gorman was sentenced at the Airdrie Sheriff Court after he was found guilty of three charges of animal cruelty for failing to provide veterinary treatment to two mastiff pups suffering from parvo virus, deliberately striking dogs in his care with a strip of wood, and failing to ensure a suitable environment including shelter, warmth and access to appropriate food and water.

Video footage captured by an eyewitness, who heard aggressive barking in the rear of  Gorman’s home located at Killearn Crescent, Plains, was turned over to the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The disturbing footage filmed on June 3, 2016 showed Gorman repeatedly beating the 11 dogs with a large wooden slat. When animal cruelty investigators arrived at the location, the dogs were found to be living in filthy conditions with feces scattered throughout the yard.

In the kitchen, investigating animal welfare officers found two mastiff puppies lying near the kitchen; one puppy had died and the other was so sick, he had to be humanely euthanized. The puppies suffered from parvo virus; Gorman never consulted with a veterinarian for their care. Gorman had been selling the dogs for profit.

According to Sara Shaw, head of the wildlife and environmental crime unit, Gorman had been guilty of widespread neglect. He had appealed an earlier conviction for animal cruelty that previously banned him from keeping animals for ten years

“The dogs in Gorman’s care were caused terrible and unnecessary suffering with Gorman failing to provide them with a suitable environment or adequate care,” Shaw stated.

In addition to the lifetime ban on keeping animals, Gorman was fined $3,440.

  1. A millionaire fined a paltry $3,440. That number needs 3 more 0’s behind it. RIP sweet puppies – I’m so sorry you suffered. I hope all of the other dogs who were beaten and starved were able to find new, wonderful homes. This POS needs to be beaten and starved – let’s see how he likes it.

  2. The same should be done to him in spades. He has enough money that he made off of previous animals and needs to relinquish all his money to the care of any dog. He deserves jail time for a long time (after being beat with a piece of wood.

  3. OK…. you say he is rich….. so why was he only fined $3000+ ??!!! That is absolutely NOTHING to someone rich….. he should have been locked up and fined many thousands of dollars!
This abuse will not stop as long as the courts just give these monsters a slap on the wrist!

  4. Dog breeder my rear end – this hunk of maggot shit is nothing more than a filthy puppy mill who not only neglected these poor dogs, he abused them and denied medical attention – he should be sitting in a prison cell and be treated exactly like he treated those poor defenseless animals – like trash. To fine him such a paltry amount is a slap on the hand to someone with his wealth – personally, I would put him in a lead lined can and send him sailing – he deserves no mercy.

  5. Why was this disgusting man not given jail time!? That is wrong on so many levels! He had the money to properly care for his dogs, he just greedy and evil! There is a special place in hell for people like him
