Update: Anca has been found and reunited with her owner!
A German shepherd, who retired from her military duties back in 2012, is missing in Sylmar, California. According to ABC 7 News, the dog, who was trained to detect explosives, managed to escape from her owner’s fenced yard last Tuesday and she has not been seen since.
The dog, named “Anca,” belongs to Anthony Aguirre, a retired Marine. Aguirre did two tours of duty with Anca and then he adopted her after she retired from her military duties. On Monday, Mission K9 Rescue notified Facebook followers that Anca is still missing and there is a reward offered for her safe return. The organization wrote:
Reward – No Questions Asked – Sylmar, Burbank, Glendale, San Fernando, LA area… Please share! We need your help to find a lost, retired, Military Working Dog.
Retired MWD Anca went missing from her home in Sylmar, CA – which is north of Los Angeles – on December 27th. Anthony and Anca did two tours before she retired and He adopted her in 2012
As of tonight she still has not been found.

Anca is said to be “very friendly.” She is microchipped and was wearing an ID tag when she disappeared. Anyone who has information about Anca’s whereabouts is asked to reach out to the Los Angeles Police Department Mission Division at (818) 838-9800.
