Rescuers ask: Who could watch this puppy be so neglected?

In Fulton County, Georgia, the photo of  a neglected ten-pound puppy so emaciated and too weak to stand was emailed Tuesday morning to Jackie O’Sullivan, co-founder of Rescue Dogs Rock NYC. Jackie was overwhelmed with sadness, but also with an intense anger as she relayed the heartbreaking story to Pet Rescue Report:Opie 4

“PLEASE MAKE IT STOP! The abuse, the neglect, the cruelty, it’s too much. We must work together to stop this from happening, day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year. These animals deserve to be loved, cared for, humanely treated, treated with compassion and most certainly fed. We are so angry over the condition of this poor helpless puppy, angry and disgusted.”

And so Opie, a five-month-old puppy who never did anything other than to have been born, has been neglected to nearly death. Weighing only ten pounds and with a body temperature not even registering on a thermometer, had it not been for the kind staff at the Fulton County Animal Shelter reaching out to Jackie and Rescue Dogs Rock NYC, Opie would have been another tragic victim of animal cruelty.Opie 5

On Wednesday, Opie’s update states he remains in critical condition and is on intravenous nutrients and pain medication. He has been administered a plasma transfusion, but veterinarians have expressed their concern that Opie may have a possible obstruction.  At this time, this puppy’s prognosis is unknown. Say a few words of hope for this sadly neglected victim of egregious animal cruelty  won’t you?

Praying for this poor innocent baby!!! Hate all these cruelties to animals!! These animals deserve to be fed and taken care of, they cannot fend for themselves. They are like children!!!!

I am disgusted beyond belief. I’ll bet this puppy has been neglected since birth. Who does this to a defenseless puppy? He’s never known a kind touch or kind word until now, no doubt. I pray he makes a complete recovery. Come on, Opie. You can do this!

How could anyone let this happen? Here is this innocent precious baby that came into this world by no choice of his own, and someone allowed him to be starved! I am so angry that humans have such freak mantality that they can not have a ounce of compassion for this baby. I donate whenever I can to every animal care place I can, and it breaks my heart to imagine the suffering that has to stop. Stricter sentences, and when will man see that animals are just like humans? That is a fact! They deserve love and affection and respect. Anyone who abuses a innocent animal needs to pay the price with many years in a small cell to think about their actions and to never forget what they have done. I would end up a physco if I had a machine gun anywhere near abusers, I would go crazy ridding the world of these freaks! Because the world has no room for this intolerable abuse.

I couldn’t agree more. I am an animal lover, I suffer from clinical depression and am bi-polar! Every single horrible story I hear about one of my furry friends makes me want to kill myself!

  4. Barkley's Mom says:

That’s the million dollar question isn’t it! “Who could watch this puppy be so neglected?” I am becoming so disgusted with humanity, they bitterness and hateful postings on the internet, the way people treat other people and then an innocent puppy is abused like this. What has happened to humanity? I will keep this precious Opie in my prayers, I hope he pulls through, this innocent soul didn’t deserve this and the ones who allowed it are monsters!

  6. Carole says:

Poor, poor little puppy. I pray he gets well and finds a wonderful home with lots of love and kindness. I hope that those who did this to him and those who stood by and did nothing die horrible painful deaths soon before they do this to another sweet innocent little puppy. Hang in there, Opie, a wonderful family is coming for you.

  7. susispot says:

Oh, please dear God, reach down to heal this little one? My heart is in such pain for him. It is really hard to see him so poor and not be able to help him. Please hear my prayer? Amen

  8. Susan Scheier says:

Is the owner who did this known? How could people not see what was going on.WE HAVE TO BE THEIR VOICE. They are innocent victims. Whoever did this needs to be locked up. I pray this innocent angel is strong enough to survive.

  9. Sherry says:

Why do people get animals if they don’t want to take care of them? I will never understand a person’s ability to neglect or be cruel to an animal. I am sending prayers to this sweet pup!

    • Cheryl Hanna says:

Have only been told the shelter called Jackie for help. I don’t know if the puppy was found as a stray or if someone turned him in. Rural shelters do the best they can. I wish we knew where Opie came from and who let this happen?

  10. Solveig Pettersson says:

Just getting the love and kindness is so good for this little pup! I hope lots of prayers are sent his way. I hope only misery comes to the cruel individual who did this to him. Law are not tough enough to keep people from doing these disturbing crimes.
