This week, all eyes have been on a life-or-death situation which was taking place at a flooded shelter in Hankamer, Texas. The facility, which held dogs and cats with the Tall Tails Animal Rescue, was flooded after water from a nearby dam was released on Sunday.

Multiple articles about the situation were published on the Pet Rescue Report – one in particular caused a great deal of turmoil from people who read an update from the local sheriff, who claimed that all of the dogs and cats had been removed from the property. The sheriff’s claim was not not in line with the information released by Tall Tails Animal Rescue partner, Dallas DogRRR – Rescue.Rehab.Reform.

On Wednesday morning, Dallas Dogs RRR addressed the confusion, and alleged lies by the sheriff:

We wanted to address some ludicrous allegations that were made last night by the Sheriff (who lied several times saying they got all of the dogs to glorify his department when at that point they most certainly had not). This is what we have come to in a time of a mass destruction, especially when this was the worst moment of people’s lives? Your post is disgraceful not to mention bordering defamation of character- they lost EVERYTHING.

The rescue agency added:

It’s concerning that a sheriff’s department would block and delete people’s comments because he doesn’t agree with them. You are despicable and clearly incapable of telling the truth and admitting when you’re wrong or make a mistake. Case in point, yesterday when you claimed that all of the animals were rescued after making ONE trip and refusing to take anymore. Although I appreciate you finally getting there to get to the dogs the next day it’s too little too late.”Sheriff” you got a lot of gall.

Every animal was finally saved from the flooded shelter facility on Tuesday evening – read more about the rescue at this link.

Help is still needed to care for all of these animals – the following information is from the rescue agency for anyone who is able to lend a hand.

These rescue groups worked so much and am glad they got the sheriff’s story clarified. Yes he did eventually help, but these groups for without them, these animals would have probably perished.Rescues all over the country helping even from New York where I live. This is the America I remember as a child growing up in the 50’s, not the bicker we are seeing every day even about what the First Lady wore on her feet( I am sure we were all wondering about her shoes). Glad to help these rescues as well as others.

Amazing what some people will do to make themselves look good. Where can we find truthful updates about Tall Tails Rescue?

    sheriff of the year
heres an idea from now on every dog shelter bed in a region that has epic floods has to have dog beds that floats.
because im looking at dogs that may be standing for 20 hrs up to their necks in water.
and im just looking at the tops of med to big dogs.

Yes, the sheriff misquoted the situation. We have got to admit they have an awful lot on their plate. I think we should save pointing fingers at this time.

Not only that he accused them of having fighting dogs. those dogs have been seen by vets and Animal Control at this point as well as volunteers and not one person has backed this up.

I think they need to sue quite honestly.

You still have people pushing this narrative as well. There’s one woman that just will not stop and has reported the rescue to various agencies including the IRS she says. She has said out right she’s not going to stop until Kevin & Kat are destroyed.

      • Mark says:

Colleen I saw that the sheriff accused them of having fighting dogs just because they were supposedly of pit bull mix. As far as the woman who has a campaign against Kevin and Kat. I hope it backfires on her where she’ll have to hide from public view.

Talk about a classless, two bit low level jerk! I hope his despicable lies are well remembered when it time to vote to keep him or replace him! What a inhumane POS! I hope he has major misery within his insignificant life for the rest of his life! COLD HEARTED AND SOULLESS

Since most law enforcement now wear body cams, doesn’t the SO have on video Kevin telling them, “There are no more animals”?

You would think but the director of the other rescue said she was on the phone when they were screaming at the sheriff that there were more animals that needed saved

What a disgrace for a person in a position of authority. This sheriff is a liar, a selfish coward, and not concerned about the welfare of animals. Then he is so despicable as to try and get the glory for saving them when that piece of shit knew he left most behind to die. What a worm. You don’t deserve a uniform and a badge or a gun. You are a fraud.

You said it all Sherry – this POS of a sheriff’s only concern was making himself look good and it backfired on him – he only proved that he is unfit for this job. He only stood up when confronted – he should be sitting in one of his cells.

What happened to all of those cats?? I haven’t seen one photo or video to update us about all of the cats. Everyone talks about the dogs and show photos or videos of the dogs being rescued. I haven’t seen one video showing ALL of the CATS being rescued, though.
