In Lincoln Park, Michigan, a local realtor, showing a home marked on the Multiple Listing System as vacant, turned out to be the very spot a little Chihuahua had been abandoned in the basement living in a cage in its own feces and urine. Realtor Alison Reedy had been showing buyers the home when she came across the disturbing discovery. Alison reedy 2

According to WxyzNews, Alison called the listing broker who told her the current owners of the home were forced to move out and leave the dog at the home. She captured a photo of the dog in the cage, surrounded by it’s own waste in the cold and dark home, and called the Lincoln Park Police. An officer arrived and picked up the dog and took her to the local animal control.

So why did Alison lose her job as a real estate agent with Downriver Real Estate? According to Alison, who has been selling real estate for six years, she was in violation of an ethic’s policy for not calling her broker first to report the situation and posting the dog’s photo and what happened on social media. As for being fired as a result of Alison saving the dog, she has no regrets. Instead she states she has other and better opportunities in her future.Alison reedy 3

The Chihuahua’s owner could be facing animal cruelty charges.

  1. Downriver Real Estate? I would make sure I would never use them for listing my property or buy anything they have listed! To fire someone for saving a little life is horrible! Bless Alison Reedy for doing what was right, even if it did cost her her job! I would have done the same!

    • I’m with you on that. They should give her a medal, or a raise, not “the door”. I would never, ever do business with a business that thought what she did was unethical. Not reporting it would be cause to fire someone. I’m glad she sees these current events as an opportunity for better things. I like that lady!

  2. No good deed goes unpunished. Alison did what was right and humane. I’m sorry she lost her job but if that’s the kind of BS her company adheres to, then she’s better off without them. Thank you, Alison, for helping the poor dog.

  3. I am in shock that this lady lost her job because she violated her company ethic policy and not reporting to her boss first. O my lord, that realtor manager is just as sick as the people who left that poor dog to die. Now I know why we have sick people out there. I hope this realtor company loses their customer base and lose business left and right. Because if it was me, I would surely make sure I destroy their reputation. Bless you my dear for what you did and I pray you will be rewarded for your kindness to this special soul.

    • I wouldn’t do business with either company ever. The realty company that fired the reporting agent and the realty company of the listing agent who knew the dog was down there.

  4. It was reasonable for the agent to do the right thing. The animals life was saved by chance. Please re-instate the agent. We are human and all we have is each other. No one died. Compassion.

  5. and the listing broker knew it was there and never did anything he/she should be up on charges to besides the scumbags that left the little guy

  6. Good for you for doing the humane thing! Also how does that look to buyers looking at the home???? There are so….many things wrong with this entire situation!!!

  7. While it’s unforgivable to do this to any animal, I suspect there is more the story about her firing. Normally there is and far be it from the news or social media to spread anything but sensationalism. …did you really expect her or the news to say this ethics violation might have been the last straw for her?

  8. THE NEWS TURNED THIS INTO A MONSTER . MY BROKER DIDNT DESERVE THIS . THE REPORT WAS NEVER SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT ME TRANSFERRING MY LICENSE . IF I WAS MY BROKER I WOULD OF FIRED ME SOONER . ANIMALS ARE LEFT LIKE THIS EVERYDAY AND THE REALTOR AND OWNER NEED TO HELD RESPONSIBLE NOT MY LOVING BROKER – ALISON REEDY

    • Sorry, but there are too many protections for those who abuse animals already. If your ethics policy forbids sharing the info of clients who abuse animals publicly then your ethics policy is unethical. If your broker enforced such a policy then he is unethical. Your defense of him is unethical, despite your doing the right thing at first.

  9. Ms Reedy,
There is just one thing left to do. Would you consider adopting the abandoned chi? the small animal left to die in the cold and the dark? The animal you delivered. The helpless animal you rescued from starvation and a long painful lonely and heart breaking death? And the two of you can start your life together anew? Because the two of you have been thrown together for a reason. I would love to know part 2- to both your stories. The one where you 2 are together forever.

  10. The broker should have been fired, and the realtor should have gotten a promotion, don’t use this agency to buy your home, and the broker forget about it they really are NOT looking for issues with that home just another dollar sign…

  11. Congratulations to you Alison. First for saving the dog, second for owning the situation with your Broker. Most would have just let it play out at the Brokers expense.

  12. This woman is my hero of the week. she saved a life and will be rewarded by karma. tell here many people will not ever use her former company, as they are HEARTLESS.

  13. Now that this has died down and my ex brokers life is not being threatened anymore I am more inclined to talk about it. When this situation happened I told my buyers that day ” I am out of Realtor mode and am now going in to protective mode for this poor animal , left to die in this cold basement ” they understood completely and stayed there supporting me through the decision to call the cops .

The dog was breathing rough and surrounded by his waste . Standing on a little piece of bedding saturated in urine. The basement ground was very cold ( that’s why he stayed on that ripped piece of bedding) No food , no water. I called my broker who did not answer . I called the listing Realtor who did answer and told me to “mind my own business , this has nothing to do with me and I needed to leave ” I told him ” I am not going anywhere with the dog still in the basement ” He then said ” the dog was not allowed to go into the apartment his seller went into and this was temporary for the dog ” I asked how long has he been down there and he stated” none of your business” again. I then posted on Facebook what was going on for support and direction on what I should do(my right) When the cop came he took the dog and brought it to the police station as the pound was too busy at the time to get the poor dog

When the Lincoln Park animal control got there to get the dog he took him to Taylor Animal shelter with no instructions as to where he came from . This is why when the owner came to get the dog they gave him back to her. She had his paper and the dog seemed happy to see her. So without ANY hesitation or knowledge of what just happened the Taylor Animal Shelter returned the dog as this is their protocol .

I was ticked . This woman just left her dog in a COLD basement for 27 DAYS

I called the Lincoln Park Police officer who helped me save this poor dog and he gave me the # for the Lincoln Park Animal control and I talk with him..he said he didn’t write any notes because he had enough to press charges on the owner and this case will go to court . Not making a lot of sense I had to leave this alone . My phone was ringing off the hook and this was taking a toll on me already .

I am glad its over and I am glad that dog didnt have to spend one more COLD ,LONELY night in that basement .

As for my ex broker and comments regarding my professionalism I am a awesome ethical Realtor . He got scared by all the threats from the listing Realtor and his broker . Threatening to take both our license . In this case my ex broker put his tail between his legs and walked away . I am still selling homes like hot cakes and will continue to do so 🙂 and will ALWAYS DO THE RIGHT THING !!!

    • Allison thank you for filling us in and THANK YOU for the good deed you have done to save this pup. BTW do you know what’s become of the pup? After she abandoned the pup for 27 days I hate to think what the owner has done to him/her. Again many thanks.
