A six-month-old puppy Alexis Cantu and her two-year-old daughter rescued when someone abandoned her in a Walmart parking lot in Ingleside, Texas was purposely set on fire Wednesday afternoon.

According to KiiiTV, Cantu had been at work when she received a text from her friend who had been caring for her puppy with the terrible news:

“It said that I needed to get over there and pick up Rosie because she was set on fire. Seeing my own dog burned; her eyes, her eyelashes are gone everything – it’s just disturbing,” Alexis stated.

Alexis had been working the night shift at her job when she was notified; she quickly picked up her little girl and rushed to her friend’s house. A Facebook post describing Rosie’s condition was heartbreaking:

“I get there to find my Rosiie in a corner to have 3rd degree burns from her ears to her mid waist. I have been working extremely hard to get her back in my care. I had just took her to the vet & spent $170.00 dollars to get her everything she needed so she could come home with us.Being a young single mom wasn’t hard enough I still wanted her. I have had her for over 6 months & was not going to give up on her now. Moving into an apartment didn’t help much either because a $400.00 dollar deposit was needed for her to come home. My head hurts, Knots in my stomach and by far the worst night of my life.”

When Animal Control arrived,  the homeowner said the six-month-old healer puppy had been tethered in the yard until they were to arrive home. Sometime on Wednesday between 3:30 in the afternoon until 7:00, someone entered into their yard, poured a flammable liquid on the puppy and set her on fire. When the heat of the fire melted the pup’s collar, she was able to free herself and rolled in the dirt to extinguish the flames.

Police report, in addition to Rosie’s animal cruelty case, on the same morning, a Robstown plumber found a dog with his mouth duct-taped and his legs tied together with medical tubing in a ditch off County Road 28. That dog is now reported to be doing well and is currently in the care of Peewee’s Pet Adoption.

A GoFundMe account for Rosiie’s veterinarian care has been set up here.

“She is doing a lot better, she ate this evening & had a couple sips of water. She will be staying the weekend at Ingleside Animal Hospital! Very confident they are making her stay has comfortable has they can!! Thank you all for your PRAYERS donations & shares!!! Now it’s just recovering time for Rosiie & to get the sick ***** to pay for what he did to my baby,” Alexis posted.

Anyone with information about this heinous and likely random crime of animal cruelty, please call Ingleside Animal Control at 775.0154 or Ingleside Police Department at 776.2531.

  1. This is a case of find the POS who did this and do the exact same thing to him! He deserves no mercy whatsoever,, and my guess is that he wouldn’t have the smarts that Rosie did to roll on the ground.

Get well soon, Rosie. I hope the family NEVER puts her in a yard like that again.

  2. Where the HELL was this “friend”… who was supposed to “watching” Rosie, but instead left her tethered – UNATTENDED – for 3-1/2 hours???!!!
People are so F*CKING STUPID, and UTTERLY IRRESPONSIBLE!
Prayers for precious Rosie’s complete recovery, and that those responsible for the heinous act are caught… and punished with Biblical reciprocity ( an eye, for and eye )!

  3. Sick fucker…someone find him before the police do and slit his throat, so no money or time is wasted on a court case that will probably only result in a slap on the wrist

  4. I hope the barbarian/s are caught and receive the death penalty. Future serial killers!!! Please keep your pets inside while you are out / at work leave piddle pads down and water. Hope for a speedy recovery for Rosie and hope she is treated for extreme pain. My heartbreaks reading these horrific stories. Please keep your pets inside!!

  5. What an Awful thing for the little child to see and worry that this same thing may happen to HER too. This Hard working mom is probably getting minimum wage and caring for her child YET she has the compassion and Love in her heart to take on this pitiful and suffering little dog…. the SoN of a BITCH that did this REALLY NEEDS TO DIE>>> Texas has an abundance of SERIOUSLY ILL People there …. The Law turns their backs… and the Governor is an ASS HOLE for NOT MAKING the STATE and EMERGENCY STATUS for the cruel acts being committed numerous times daily!!! WHERE IS A TASK FORCE!!!!

  6. A puppy/dog should never be left alone and/or tied up outside. Never. Too many vile beings among us waiting to inflict pain and suffering upon the voiceless. I hope this puppy survives and thrives. Humans need to be held accountable for their irresponsibility.

  7. J’espère qu’ils seront retrouvės et condamnés à la peine de mort. Se sont des dangers pour la société, des assassins.

  8. Prayers to her and thank you to the family that saved her. PEOPLE ARE SICK, Who sets any living being on fire, SICK! Please look at the Wal-Mart Footage and CATCH THESE JERKS! Evil, heartless people!

  9. What is Wrong with People???? I hope they catch who ever did this to this Pup gets Caught and gets put into Prison with the Inmates that are Animal Lovers do him in. Karma will get you.

  10. These maggots who get their kicks by torturing animals need a massive dose of street justice – authorities will do little to nothing to even catch them – and Texas does have the reputation of lax punishment to animal abusers – I hope Rosie recovers as does the dog found in Robstown – NEVER leave your animals outside without supervision – this should be a wake up call to all pet owners – too many sewer scum out there.

  11. I just can’t ????

Rosie I wish you a quick recovery. I’m so sorry for whatever evil did this to you. I hope you reach your goal, I donated. ❤️
