Teen suffers bite from Obama's dog

On Monday, a White House visitor, described as a “family friend” of the Obama’s, was apparently bitten in the face by the First Family’s dog; TMZ broke the news on Thursday.

According to the publication, Sunny, a four-year-old Portuguese water dog, is responsible for the bite, which left the female visitor with a wound to her face. The girl’s cheek wound required stitches, and the bite may leave a scar, but other long-term complications aren’t anticipated.

The un-named bite victim was attempting to give Sunny a kiss (apparently an unwanted kiss) when the bite took place. While people typically enjoy showing affection with hugs and kisses, many dogs do not appreciate the close face-to-face contact (especially from strangers!) and experts warn that such actions may lead to…you guessed it, bites.

According to TMZ, the White House has not commented on the unfortunate incident.

  1. Yikes. No, you should NEVER put your face to a dog’s face unless you are very familiar with the dog (i.e., it’s YOUR pet). I hope the little girl won’t be traumatized for life. I don’t know but assume there’s been a lot of activity at the White House and Sunny probably wasn’t handling it well. I remember when a reporter got bitten by President Bush’s Scottish Terrier….so let’s not make this political since it’s clearly NOT.

  2. You said it. Dogs don’t always enjoy kisses, especially the kisses of strangers. Both dogs were taken to a trainer before they ever arrived at the White House due to the high profile life style and stress the family and dogs lives are constantly under. Sunny isn’t the first First Family dog to bite someone (remember Barney Bush and the reporter?), and she probably won’t be the last. Glad the bite wasn’t really serious.

  3. Never and I mean never put your face in the face of a dog…They have no idea why this stranger is in their face.Hope the Obama’s do not put the dog down

  4. i HOPE NO ONE BLAMES SUNNY, AS THE ARTICLE SAYS MANY DOGS DON’T LIKE KISSES AND HUGS ESPECIALLY FROM PEOPLE THEY DON’T KNOW WELL. KISSING AND HUGGING IS SOMETHING DOGS DON’T DO TO EACH OTHER, THEY LEARN THAT EXPERIENCE FROM HUMANS. SUNNY JUST NEEDS TO BE WATCHED AROUND PEOPLE SHE DOESN’T KNOW FROM NOW ON AND NO ONE SHOULD GET IN HER FACE. SHE ALSO DOES NEED TO BE TOLD SHE ISN’T ALLOWED TO BITE, WHEN IT HAPPENS. DOGS DO LEARN.

  5. I don’t care whose dog it is, some dogs don’t like to be hugged, especially by people that aren’t their own family. I’m sorry for the person that got bit, but hopefully they have learned a lesson, and I hope they will heal ok. One good thing, she shouldn’t have to worry about whether Sunny is up to date with shots.

  6. Well, now she has a conversation starter. I hope the bite site heals well. Best not to offer your face to a dog that is not your own.
