In another heartbreaking situation of neglect and abuse, a tiny white Maltese found herself at a high kill south Texas animal shelter this week because her previous owner didn’t want to deal with the grapefruit sized tumors on her belly. The dog, barely weighs 17-pounds; no one can even guess how long Lesli, had been carrying the tumors around as they oozed pus and blood.

Rescued on Thursday morning by Rescue Dogs Rock NYC, Lesli was rushed to the organization’s partner veterinarian hospital in San Antonio, and after her initial physical examination, came the shocking news. On top of all of Lesli’s serious medical issues, she is also pregnant and due to deliver her puppies within the week. Surgery to remove the tumors is not an option; that is until the puppies are born and possibly weaned.

“Obviously she’s had this tumor for a very long time, dragging it around and in the interim getting pregnant,”  stated Stacey Silverstein, co-founder of Rescue Dogs Rock NYC.

On Saturday, Lesli had settled into her foster home, however her condition demands 24/7 monitoring by an experienced medical staff.

“She has safely made it to her foster home where she will somehow give birth in the next few days. This is such a horrible situation, and we just cannot believe that poor Lesli has to continue this never ending nightmare. Giving birth while navigating an oozing tumor the size of a grapefruit with other tumors surrounding the largest one is so sad.

We wish it didn’t have to be this way for poor Lesli, and she could have had surgery to remove these nasty tumors and start her new life… She will be at the vet on Monday to monitor her condition,” Stacey added to the organization’s Facebook page updating the dog’s condition.

Please note, Rescue Dogs Rock NYC is in need of foster homes for two other pregnant dogs rescued within the last few weeks.

“We have 3 dogs that are pregnant right now, that we had no idea were pregnant when we rescued them 3 weeks ago from a kill shelter in Texas. We have secured only one foster Home for Lesli ( dog with tumor ) If you can open up your heart and home for these deserving dogs so that they can at least deliver their babies in peace then apply immediately. Another Example of the ruthlessness of many of the population in this state… Rescue Dogs New York spends more on the helpless animals in Texass! than any other state in the USA… this is uncalled for and totally not necessary the Governor sits back in his mansion and nothing at all to promote measures to rectify some of this neglect, torture, abuse, and they state he and his wife are animal advocates!!!! Sure they are!!! Sad to say the least .. I hope this poor neglect abused girl makes it thru her pregnancy and the pups live…

RDR of NY have come to the save this dog as they have and continue to do. We are grateful to all the rescues in the various states who are selfless and are there for these dogs when no one else is. Owners should be found and court ordered to pay for this dogs care, and then put in jail. We know that is far from what would happen and the owners and other owners should be glad people who care for these animals don’t get them first. Prayers to the rescues and for all the dogs like Lesli, who are subjected to such horrific situations like this.

And if not for Rescue Dogs Rock NYC Lesli would have already been killed – the state of Texas is pitiful when it comes to animal welfare. Their shelters are nothing more than death camps who do nothing to help animals. The maggot shit of an owner deserves a fatal dose of drive by.
