A Portage, Wisconsin man faces a felony count of animal cruelty after allegedly fatally beating a neighbor’s dog while installing speakers in their home. Andrew Collette, 38, was arrested on Thursday in connection with the February 18, 2016 incident.

According to the Portage Daily Record, Brandy Rose, the owner of the eight-and-a-half pound Papillon named Pepe, told authorities Collette told her he needed extra supplies and asked her to go to the store. When she returned home, Pepe was nowhere to be found – the dog would always happily greet everyone at the door.

“My friend and I went into my daughter’s bedroom and found her underneath the bed and that’s when we pulled her out. Her eye was red and bulged out; she didn’t even acknowledge me. There was nothing,” Brandy stated.

Brandy rushed her dog to a Lodi veterinarian who later called police telling them she had to humanely euthanize Pepe due to severe injuries including a fractured pelvis, head trauma and a deflated lung. That same day Collette had been in the home installing the speakers, Brandy’s husband and their two young children had been home, and Collette had yelled at the kids for being loud and annoying. After that, the father took the kids to a nearby park. When police questioned Collette, he denied abusing the defenseless pup and said the dog had been excited and fell out of a window;  there were no glass fragments to back up his story, nor did the examining veterinarian agree considering the extent of Pepe’s injuries.

Collette has a record of arson and battery and is listed to be on probation. He is currently being held in the Columbia County Jail. If convicted, Collette could face up to three-and-a-half years in prison.

  1. Filthy POS! What a great big man, beating an 8 pound dog to death! I hope that bastard gets karma visited upon him ASAP.

  2. It pays to know WHAT you have working in your house! This monster belongs in jail and I don’t for one minute believe his story! These people should have booted his butt out the door when he yelled at their children. Poor little dog, they should never have left this felon alone in their home to begin with!

  3. The extant of the injuries tells the story! This poor little dog was beaten to death! He shoved this baby under the one child’s bed! This is a thing! This thing killed this baby! He should consider himself very lucky! If this thing lived by me we would play a little game call let’s do to you what you did to the baby!

  4. I don’t know how to handle all the pain and suffering that crosses the screen of my computer. I want to fix things. After 12 yrs of advocating their cause NOTHING has changed. NOTHING!

    • I’m with you. It makes my heart ache with pain every time. More people need to lobby for change and keep pushing for stiffer penalties! Lamenting on our wishes here does nothing. Do you think there is strength in numbers if enough of us signed a petition or something? I can’t stand to see animals suffer anymore!

  5. Forget the justice system – it treats animal abusers as seriously as litterers – Andrew Collette deserves to be put thru the wood chipper feet first. This maggot will NEVER get the punishment he deserves unless some fatal street justice is dealt.
