A police K9 with the DeKalb County, Indiana, sheriff’s department has died after being forgotten in the back of a squad car for four hours. According to WANE News, the dog died on Thursday after his handler apparently forgot him inside of the squad car.

The dog, “Mojo,” was partnered with DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department School Resource Officer Courtney Fuller. Fuller returned to his home around 3 p.m. and was “distracted” by an issue with his child. After 7 p.m., Fuller noticed that Mojo was not in his kennel – after searching, Mojo was found dead in the squad car, apparently from heat stroke.

The deceased dog’s body was sent away for a necropsy to determine the official cause of death; Fuller is on suspension until the investigation concludes.

DeKalb County Sheriff Don Lauer stated:

“The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department regrets this tragic mistake and mourns the loss of one of its members,”

  1. This guy that forgot his dog is a scumbag! How can you forget your dog in the car for 4 hours? This police idiot needs to be fired, and hope this dog will haunt him till he dies of heat stroke himself! What a worthless piece og crap!

    • Did you read the article? It says the guy was distracted by an issue with his child. The “issue” could have been anything, even an emergency. A child’s life is just as important as a dog’s.
His forgetting about the dog is tragic. But it was an accident. Accidents happen! Don’t be so judgemental.

      • Seriously?!!! What would be the first thing after parking your car? Open the door and let Mojo out.

    • Even if they had the alarm system, the POS would have had to have remembered the dog was there and activate it. No excuse for him being so irresponsible with his partner!

  2. What a horrible way for a loyal dog to die.Depended on his handler to come for him and instead, totally forgotten until too late. There should be something installed in these vehicles with police dogs that when you open your door to get out, a blinking light goes on with a written warning about dog in car. Even if it happens every time he gets out, it could condition the handler to really think about his dog/partner.

  3. The first thing ANY K-9 officer should do on returning home is make sure his K-9 is out of the car and safe. I truly hope this POS is more responsible with his child whose issue was such a distraction that it killed K-9 Mojo. It’s time these police officers start being held accountable for the lives they are wasting by being so irresponsible! Rest in peace Mojo, you deserved better than this!

  4. WTF???????? WTH????????
Another cop murders his K9 PARTNER!! This time credit goes to Indiana cop!! He went to kennel to check on his partner but he wasn’t there?!?!?? SEEMS HE FORGOT & LEFT OFFICER MOJO IN THE HOT PATROL CAR FOR 3 & 1/2 HRS AFTER THEY GOT HOME!!
OF COURSE HE’S NOT IN HIS KENNEL,, WORTHLESS POS IDIOT ,,, HE RIGHT WHERE YOU LEFT HIM!!
Where & when does this bullshit animal cruelty, actually MURDER STOP!! And why does OFFICER MOJO LIVE IN A KENNEL?? My GOD he works for FREE,, WILL & DID GIVE HIS LIFE FOR HIS FELLOW PARTNER,, & LIVES IN A CAGE! SERIOUSLY!!

  5. Another stupid cop that should not be allowed to have an animal as a partner also these dogs cost the police department a lot of money for being so highly trained what would happen if the cost of the dog was taken out of the handlers paycheck as punishment.

  6. stupid fiool, i realize that your child comes first, but all it would have taken was 10 mins, the most to let the dog out of the car, give him some water and shade, then you have all the time you need with your family.

  7. Oh come one jackasses. You fine people for animal cruelty for this type of neglect, is that the end of that, just because it’s a police officer that was at fault here? To me, all the more reason to charge him, they should not be able to treat animals with more disregard because they are officers. They are supposed to set examples, right? No excuse for this bullcrap. A torturous death to a fine animal due caused by their stupid handler. YUCK.

    • Too late, that was his excuse for forgetting the dog, “an issue with his child”. Lets hope the mother is more “with it” than this POS officer.

  8. Where do these states find these so called ‘police officers’?? They keep proving they are either incompetent, unreliable, and definitely incapable of being responsible for an animal. I wouldn’t let any one of these idiots clean my cat litter. HUGE black eye the state of Indiana – Courtney Fuller needs to be fired – has proven total incompetence. And, as par for the course, DeKalb County expresses their sadness on the loss of Mojo, BUT will do nothing to punish this idiot of a cop – Mojo deserves MUCH better than to be treated so callously.

  9. Grrrrr! I’m so darned pissed about this!!!! HOW?? …..HOW CAN U FORGET UR PARTNER,UR PET OR UR CHILD IN A CAR BECAUSE I CANNOT COMPREHEND HOW A HUMAN WITH A BRAIN CANT REMEMBER A LIVING BEING IN THE CAR WITH THEM! It is against the law to leave an animal or child in a hot car,IS IT TOO MUCH TO ASK THAT OUR LAW ENFOREMENT OBEY THIS LAW? They always get no punishment for this cruelty just like all abusers! I feel if this happens even once, that the department responsible should be banned from owning and working with dogs for two years! That should be a long enough period of time to get common sense and protocols in place to avoid another cruel avoidable death! DOGS ARE NOT DISPOSABLE AND THEIR LIFE MUST BE RESPECTED AND PROTECTED!!!! PERIOD!!!! ONCE AGAIN THIS IS INEXCUSABLE AND UNFORGIVABLE! LAW ENFORCEMENT EVERYWHERE…….STOP STOP STOP THIS STUPIDITY…..STOP!!!!!! IM SO PISSED

  10. Abuse is abuse. No excuse for this officer NOT REMOVING the K-9 BEFORE he went into his house. If you truly love and care for animals…. you don’t have to THINK or REMEMBER they are with you…… This person should be held to the same standards as anyone else. This poor animal suffered an unbearable death and the stupidity of the officer!

  11. NOTHING COULD DISTRACT ME IF I HAD AN ANIMAL, ESPECIALLY MY PARTNER, WOULD STOP ME. THIS IS JUST HORRIBLE!!!! I HOPE HE FRIES!!!! HE DESERVES TO BE FIRED!!!
