Just look at Sophia;  seven-month-old pointer puppy mix and most likely has never had a carefree day in her short life to play and romp in the yard as should any healthy young dog. Instead, the long term neglect from her previous owner, left her in this heartbreaking condition – emaciated, hairless and in horrible pain from  the endless scratching and open, infected sores.

When animal advocates were told about Sophia, and as her photos garnered attention on social media, Stacey Silverstein and Jackie O’Sullivan, co-founders of Rescue Dogs Rock NYC stepped up to help. As arrangements were underway to transfer the puppy to the organization’s partner emergency veterinary hospital for treatment, her departure from the San Antonio shelter was delayed:

“SOPHIA ABUSE CASE UPDATE: her case became a cruelty case today which delayed her release, but if her owner is held accountable for her horrific & heartbreaking condition, it’s worth it! She is now free to leave for our vet & we are working on transporting her now,” the organization posted late Tuesday evening.

Updates will be posted as soon as they are made available. In the meantime, a Facebook page for Sophia can be followed here.

  1. Poor baby has never known a day without pain, no doubt.

If you can donate to Rescue Dogs Rock NYC, PLEASE do so – even if you can only give $10, every little bit helps – skip Starbucks for a day or two. Rescue Dogs Rock NYC takes on many cases, most of which I call the “worst of the worst” – I’ve given them $450 so far this year.

    • I’ve given to Rescue Dogs Rock NYC several times this year also, this is a worthy organization and I don’t know how they continually help so many dogs. Bless them for saving another.

    • I’ve given to them a few times this year. They do a wonderful job and are an all volunteer rescue with some of the most difficult cases. Sophia couldn’t be in better hands.

  2. For ONCE The Texas ” powers that Should have been long ago” actually stepped up and filed Charges against these Moronic Scum Bags!!! NOW lets hope a prosecutor and a JUDGE will actually do THE JOB”S they were appointed to DO in the first place and give this poor little pup JUSTICE!!!!

  3. Rescue dogs rock seems to always step up. Donate-please– even just a few dollars. If everyone donates a little RDR steps up again and again. Poor Sophia is so bad off she’s oozing. RDR wants her oozing and all. We can love Sophia and RDR. Be well soon Sophia.

  4. This piss poor example of an owner, much less a human should be sitting in jail awaiting prosecution for FELONY animal cruelty – this poor puppy suffered so much at the filthy hands of a cruel abusive hunk of sewer sludge and deserves justice for the pain he endured. And again, if not for Rescue Dogs Rock NYC this poor dog would have been euthanized – Texas would have wasted no time in any sort of care.
