A busy, open-door animal shelter in California has issued a plea for help in the days leading up to one of the busiest intake periods of the year – the 4th of July holiday weekend. On June 26, the Facebook page, Friends of the North Central Shelter – Los Angeles Animal Services, explained:

Each year around this time, the shelter faces overcrowding due to animals that run away after being scared by fireworks. There are animals currently at NC who have been here SINCE running away scared last 4th.

Yes, dogs who were brought in a year ago over the 4th of July weekend are still there – no home, no family. How can people in the area help? By opening their home to foster a homeless dog. The Facebook page explained:

Our #4Days4Life program offers short term fosters the chance to save animals by taking in a dog or cat during this horrifically busy week. Stop by or call now to find out how you can make this your most gratifying holiday weekend ever!

The animal shelters in this area will soon be inundated with scared, lost pets – the situation leads to serious over-crowding problems. The key to saving lives is fostering. Please click here to learn more about how you can help.

Sad fact – there are currently 784 homeless dogs and 461 cats in the care of Los Angeles Animal Services facilities.

I’ve been hearing fire crackers for the last week…really loud ones and I think of dogs being scared and running off and their owners not keeping tabs on their dogs!
