At the Harris County Animal Shelter, the heartless family of a frightened Labrador retriever tied a rope around her neck and legs and dragged her into the shelter on Wednesday. The “family,” still in their slippers, yelled at their dog named Maya – angry and obviously impatient that she wasn’t walking into the high kill shelter willingly. And they yelled her name “Maya, Maya” as if the tone was going to encourage the panicky pet to summarily obey.
Perhaps the saddest part was watching the young child trying to hurry his dog to her impending death into an overcrowded shelter. According to volunteers, there was not a single tear shed for their dog. Sadly owner surrendered pets are the first to be euthanized. How do we expect children to show compassion when their parents encourage such callous treatment of their dog? Please share Maya’s plight with rescue organizations, friends, family and social media contacts.
Maya’s Pet Harbor listing # A480337 “I have a rescue group interested in me. My name is MAYA. I am a female, tan Labrador Retriever mix. The shelter staff think I am about 2 years and 6 months old. I have been at the shelter since Mar 28, 2017. For more information about this animal, call:
Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services at (281) 999-3191. Ask for information about animal ID number A480337.
Maya’s story can be followed on Facebook. Please note that no dog is safe until they are out of the building. Hopefully we will all see freedom photos soon.
