Once upon a time, a beautiful Basset Hound made her family proud; a patient breed known for their intelligence, their loyalty and their incredible hunting instincts. Sissy had that distinct look; being low to the ground with her big floppy ears, but somewhere along the line, she was betrayed.

On Thursday morning, Rescue Dogs Rock NYC rescued Sissy from a South Texas animal shelter. Stacey Silverstein, co-founder of the organization, posted her photos; they were enough to make anyone cry:

“Heartbreaking and infuriating,” wrote Stacey. “This sweet soul, we have named Sissy, spiraled into this condition by some sub human who permitted this to happen and then dumped her into a South Texas kill Shelter.”

Sissy’s eyes are severely infected and are bleeding. Her skin, raw to the touch and the folds on her neck that should be so endearing and indicative of her proud and friendly breed, lie flat, lifeless and completely devoid of fur. Who can even tell what her coat colors might have been “once upon a time”?

“Shameful to the owners that allowed this,” Stacey continued. “The good news is, that Sissy is out of the shelter and is already at our Texas veterinarian partner receiving life saving medical care.”

The dog’s recovery is anticipated to be a long one, but isn’t every life worth saving? To help with this girl’s veterinarian expenses, see below:

  1. All I can say is SHAME on this dogs previous owners…..they should be ashamed of themselves….they only loved her when she was young & vibrant…..when she got older & sick, they betrayed her……but that’s ok, because she is safe now & getting the loving care she needs…Karma is coming…..maybe when they get old, their children won’t want to care for them……just saying.

  2. To neglect a dog to this point only shows how low some people sink – Sissy deserved so much better than to be treated like trash – Thank God that Rescue Dogs Rock NYC once again came through otherwise Sissy would be dead since Texas would have killed her in a heartbeat. These previous piss poor examples of owners will get their just due – what goes around comes around and I hope it is long suffering – they deserve a slow painful future.

  3. Please tell me the sub human who was responsible for this is being held accountable, fined, jailed, something!! We need a national registry for people like this. This monster NEVER SHOULD be allowed to own or live in the same home as a pet!!!!!

  4. Prayers for Sissy that she becomes her strong, beautiful self again. It will take time, but she is worth it and I am sure a family is waiting for her.
