Penny is a delightful 16-year-old pooch who has a story to tell; too bad it is so sad. Brought into Baldwin Park County shelter as a stray, some careful detective work discovered a link to his past by the license tag he wore. No one expected Penny’s previous owner to react this way:

“#A1303225 Penny, listed as a brown tan unaltered chi, has a story,” wrote shelter volunteer Karen Klink. “His owner said he was dead and wasn’t paying his license fees. A miracle happened, and Penny showed up alive! When the owner came, he said Penny wasn’t worth it despite being offered financial assistance by ASPCA. The little dude is confirmed 16 years old; not by the owner who had no clue, but from when he had been licensed many moons ago.”

And with the push of the red button on the owner’s Iphone, Penny was left homeless, in a high kill animal shelter and now hopes for a miracle. Penny does seen to be quite healthy and is in need of a foster or a permanent home; he promises not to take up much room. He enjoys his naps and loves wet food. After all, those senior years can affect teeth, and although he still has some, it’s just so much easier to chew and then savor the tastes of canned food.

  1. ANOTHER CALIFORNIA (YUPPIE/GUPPIE ) that is and UNCARING and SELFISH ASSHOLE I HOPE this PREVIOUS “so called owner)” has a stroke and lingers in his own urine and feces, as there is nobody that gives ONE CENT about HIM until he succumbs to the flies and maggots that linger on his worthless body!!! Penny ( my name sake) is indeed a tough little man.. I hope someone or a rescue like “FROSTED FACES ” will scoop him up and let him live out his remaining years with LOVE and HAPPINESS.

  2. I would love him!!!!!!!

My precious treasure MacKitty just passed away from liver cancer and my home is so empty…….

How do I get this treasure to SF Bay Area???

I think his former owner is crazy to give him up……. He would be treasured and loved in my home…….

    • Not sure how to rescue this treasure.

He deserves to be a beloved, treasured family member and not to die afraid, alone and worst of all unloved in the shelter………

    • The HAVE lots of pilots for dog rescue in that area I do believe. !!! Also transporters of a rescue like frosed faces culd pull him for you!!! that is a high kill shetler so hurry if you mean it!!! God Speed!!!

      • Do you know how to contact someone who can help me pull this treasure and transport him to me in Northern California?

The shelter was not very helpful: I was told that I had to come to Los Angles and adopt him in person…… I can’t take off work at this time.

      • They SAY they want to find homes!!!! what a crock !!! they will probably put Penny down….. California needs to fall of the coast into the Pacific!!

    • Freedom Train Animal Rescue Transports is an all volunteer service that may be able to help if you are really interested in adopting this little guy – they can be reached at [email protected]. They work in many states – PLEASE contact them – give this senior guy a safe loving home – you will never regret it.

      • If there is a “Frosted Faces” rescue in your area : contact them and maybe they can help you out… I live in about 1800 miles east of California and have no clue … look on line for dog rescue flights in that area. my only suggestion. I hope someone here can give you more help ..maybe write Penny Eims on the site..

      • Hi Nancy:

THANK YOU VERY MUCH for your wonderful advice.

I just emailed Rhonda with info about this little treasure.

I will update when I have more information.

      • I have contacted Frosted Faces and they can’t help me, Freedom Train Transport won’t accept my email (they are returned as “undeliverable”)….. I messaged Karen K. and have not heard back…..

I am not from LA and have no rescue group contacts.

As of yesterday afternoon, this treasure was still available……

I can’t travel at this time due to illness and Dr.’s orders……. I don’t know anyone who is available or willing to go to LA…….

I am heartsick thinking of him alone, afraid and unloved…….

  3. What is our World coming to!!!! the stories of abuse and neglect and torture are out of control…. yet OUR International HUSS keep bringing in RESCUES from OVER SEA”S//// There has to be a HIDDEN PROFIT for THEM!!!

  4. How cruel his owners were, I hope when they get old, their families will not care for them, because they are to old. It’s happens all the time. Karma people.. sendijng my prayers and love for this little guy to find a good forever home.

  5. Whish Little Penny a careful foreverhome ???????????????? She REALLY NEEDS AND DESERVES THIS ❤❤❤❤❤❤BIG HUGS FROM SWEDEN ????????????????

  6. The cruel and heartless “humans” in this world never ceases to astound me! This little guy is a valuable treasure who deserves nothing but the best in life in his old age! Heartache and tears again in seeing this most adorable little soul cruelly abandoned! Some days I just can’t read these posts,it’s beyond heartbreaking! If only these shelters would stop murdering these wonderful dogs because it’s been proven many times over that there are more homes available than pets in need.but they are not given time to get those homes and that’s unforgivable! I’m glad I will not be judged by our maker for the unacceptable killing of dogs and cats for just being homeless! PRAYING FOR YOU PENNY! HOW I WISH I COULD AFFORD TO HAVE YOU! PLEASE PLEASE SOMEBODY PLEASE SAVE THIS PRECIOUS LITTLE SOUL….PLEASE! I AM SO HEARTBROKEN

  7. Wow! Black hearts of stone. So nonchalant about their dog’s life/survival. They don’t deserve a loyal companion like this. Wish there was a way that these people were put on a registry and not allowed to own other animals. They are short changing these much valuable pets. Shame. Shame.

  8. If a rescue will pull Penny, I will donate. I would take Penny in a minute if a volunteer transport like what i volunteer for can get her to roseburg Or. Penny can join my others who are not young, not perfect but very well loved and cared for. Signed muttmomvicki. Vicki Hood

  9. I did some research and this precious little treasure was saved and is in a very loving furever home. He has a new name: “Grandpa Herbert”!!!
    WTG: networking adoptable companions works!!!!!
