The owner of a Golden retriever has been permanently banned from owning any pets after appearing before Cwmbran Magistrates’ Court and admitting he caused his dog, Max, “unnecessary suffering” after wrapping him in an old rug and abandoning him at the side of the road because the dog was ill. Paul James, 55, pleaded guilty to three animal welfare offenses.

According to MetroUK, James, from Abertillery, was also sentenced to 18 months in prison, suspended for one year and ordered to pay court costs and a victim’s surcharge.  The dog Max had been suffering from a severe ear infection, and instead of taking his dog to the veterinarian for treatment, James wrapped the ailing pet into an old rug and dumped him near Fochriw Mountain, Caerphilly, South Wales. When finally discovered, Max’s infection had poisoned his entire body; veterinarians humanely euthanized the dog.

“It was heartbreaking that in this dog’s moment of need, instead of companionship and compassion, his owner chose to dump him like this, to die alone and suffering,” stated RSCPA Inspector Annie Simmonds.

Rest in peace Max. (Photos of Max rolled up in rug via MetroUK)

  1. This POS disgusts me…. Terrible sentence: He should have been locked up forever with animal lovers who could have provided him some painful “special attention”…….

Hope the rest of his useless life is filled with pain and suffering. Execution would improve our planet since this POS is a waste of resources……

RIP angel Max. The monster who did this to you will burn in Hell forever for his cruelty…….

  2. Disgusting that a dog in this day and age would have to die from and ear infection. This disgusting owner deserves a lifelong ban, It breaks my heart that this beautiful dog had to be put to sleep because of their despicable negligence!

  3. i want to roll him up in a rug then run him over with a car over and over!!!! POS SOB EVIL MONSTER!!! THEN THATS ALL HE GETS??? THATS ALL THAT HAPPENES TO THIS POS?????? HOW CAN ANYONE DO THAT???? THEN HOW CAN COURTS JUST GIVE SO LITTLE TIME AND BASICALLY LET HIM GET AWAY WITH IT. ITS CASES LIKE THIS THAT ENCOURAGE OTHER SCUM BAGS TO DO NASTY THINGS LIKE THIS. BECAUSE COPS AND COURTS DO SOMETHING NEXT TO NOTHING. THIS DOG NEVER SHOULD OF LOST HIS LIFE!!!!! THAT POS MAN SHOULD HAVE!!!

  4. Max died because he had a total dirtbag for an owner – an ear infection is easily treatable BUT Paul Jones was too damn lazy to take him to a vet, he decided to just let him suffer SO I truly hope this hunk of horse manure gets a megadose of street justice because banning him from owning animals is NOTIHNG – and as usual Max will never get the true justice he deserves. Unfortunately, those that have the authority to do something, DO NOTHING.

  5. Layed is dog on cold rocks and shale and got back in his car . Went home and got himself a beer. Because he earned it.
Because He thinks hes just been thru “Something”

  6. Although I feel the penalty should be greater, the same as if this were a person murdered and tortured I am so glad this creep got 18 months in prison and can no longer own any pet.
Thanks to the judge who didn’t just slap him on his wrist. As so many others do, .give him a fine and let him go.

Any abuse of animals or people should be taken seriously and maximum penalties should be served, hopefully, this judge will be the catalyst that will urge other judges to prosecute these individuals even more than this.

Hopefully, he’ll get the same treatment from the inmates as he gave poor Max ????

  7. WE PRAY EVERYDAY THAT GOD AND JESUS WILL SEND ANYONE WHO HURTS OR KILLS LOVING ANIMALS TO HELL FOREVER!!! AMEN!!!!

  8. NO words…..he is a worthless excuse of skin, and the courts are even more useless for giving him suspended sentence…. I don’t get it. THIS IS A MONSTER AND YOU JUST LET HIM WALK?????

  9. This is insane! I’m dealing with an eye infection right now of a kitten who was born 4 1/2 weeks ago in my house from a stray cat I put in a spare room. I am treating all four kittens to be safe with prescription strength medication for eye and ear infections in cats and dogs (and, of course, kittens and puppies). The main reason cats go blind and even have to have one or both eyes removed is because of untreated eye infections as kittens. This medication cost me less than $20 – including tax – at Tractor Supply Company. This subhuman creature let a simple ear infection that would have cost very little to treat go unaddressed until the dog’s whole system was so poisoned that he had to be euthanized. There is absolutely no excuse for this behavior!

    • I foster for our local SPCA and work at a Veterinary clinic and I agree with you. I’ve had medical fosters that kept me up at night worried for them and this (person) makes me sick.

  10. How inhumane, how sad, how selfish, heartless, cold, unkind, disgusting! , I HATE THIS BASTARD FOR BEING WHAT HE IS! I HATE THIS WORLD FOR ADDING EVERYDAY, MORE AND MORE BASTARD PROGENIES TO A LOST SOCIETY. STOP REPRODUCING PEOPLE! WE HAVE ENOUGH OXYGEN STEALING GHOULS AMONG US! NEUTER THIS BASTARD AND DO IT WITHOUT ANESTHETIC! LET HIS PECKER WITHER AND DIE AND WITH SOME LUCK, HIM TOO!

  11. What LIES beneath hell are the animal abusers. Hope this freak doesn’t have long before he joins the rest of the demons. RIP you poor pup that did not deserve this suffering!

  12. Ear infections are easily treated successfully, but you do have to be aware of the fact that you have a dog and its health depends on you. So you do have to at least look at your dog and notice things that may be wrong. I get so angry with the excuse of “I didn’t notice until it was going to cost me too much at the Vet”. B.S., pets, like children get sick-> going to just get rid of them?
