Outrage on Chinese social media as live rabbit left hanging behind vehicle

A motorist in Kunming, an area located in Southwest China, was both surprised and upset after seeing a live rabbit  swinging back and forth from the back of an SUV. The photos quickly circulated through China’s social media with viewers trying to decide if the act was more animal cruelty or an attempt for the driver of the car to hide his license plate.

According to the Shanghaiist, most web users were disturbed over the apparent animal cruelty, however some of the wry humor left readers disgusted and irate. Comments ranging from the man “tenderizing the bunny” or “mixing exhaust fumes adding to the taste of the meat” were met with angry comments about the man in the car being intentionally cruel to a defenseless animal and making the bunny suffer egregious fright and pain.

“The driver should be hung from the back of a big truck to let him see how it feels,” stated one reader commenting on the disturbing photo.

Perhaps to add insult to injury, noting the lack of concern and callousness of authorities as to animal cruelty, was the report to the Kunming Police who stated they had launched an investigation as to the incident, however officials were only concerned with the driver covering up his license plate. Obviously animal cruelty has no limits in Kunming. There have been no updates on the condition of the bunny or even if he survived the abuse.

The more I see of how the Chinese and other Asian countries treat animal abuse, the more appalled I am! Really, the Authorities were only concerned the rabbit was covering up the license plate? The other comments about “tenderizing the bunny” or “mixing exhaust fumes adding to the taste of the meat” are equally disturbing! We see why I try not to buy Chinese goods, I have no desire to help support these people!

I totally agree …. I make a special effort of boycotting Chinese goods during their Yulin Dog festival =( … Just think if millions of Americans boycotted their goods for the week of the festival !!!! Hopefully they would feel the pinch !!!

more interested in the visibilty of the plate, china sucks when it comes to compassion and treatment of living creatures other than their stupid selves, what a pathetic culture, too many posts and videos showing their love of torture and abuse, ex. boiling newborn chicks and ducks that are male at birth, shameless , of course they eat them like everything else, it would be nice if all animals could escape this horrific country!

Animal abuse in China is treated as seriously as littering – BOYCOTT ALL CHINESE IMPORTS – Hit them in the pocket – that is where it will hurt – their cruelty and indifference to animal suffering is appalling!

I wish I could obliviate that entire country! Not only do they eat dogs and kill them in the most torturous way possible(they believe that the adrenaline from the fear and pain makes the meat better) they abuse, torture and kill ALL animals unfortunate enough to exist there! I despise this country BIG TIME!! There is a very small percentage of the people there doing their best to combat the dog and cats torture and killing! But it’s ALL ANIMALS that are brutalized in this horrible country!! SHAME ON CHINA

En Chine où pas, la justice devrait être la même dans tout les pays. Condamnations sévères pour tout actes de cruauté, violence, abandon ext. .. Pas de pitié pour les barbares, les assassins. Tous ces consanguins sont des dangers pour la société.

I am afraid that the majority of China is just IGNORANT in the fact that animals have feelings too. At least I hope it is ignorance and not the fact that they are just monsters.
UNTIL ONE HAS LOVED AN ANIMAL….. PART OF ONE’S SOULD REMAINS UNAWAKENED.
Guess that the Chinese are unawakened.
