Oregon man gets 5 days in jail for hanging neighbor’s cat from fence

An Oregon man, who is accused of killing his neighbor’s cat by hanging the feline from a fence, spent a mere give days in jail for the crime. According to Tuesday’s News Channel 21, 56-year-old Glen William Lacoss, of Bend, pleaded no contest to a charge of first-degree animal abuse for the act of cruelty which claimed the life of “Sweetie.”

Sweetie belonged to Rick and Shannon Garza – neighbors of Lacoss. Lacoss claimed that the cat was “scratching his trees” and stated that he believed that the cat was feral. In addition to the five days of jail time, Lacoss is prohibited from owning a domestic animal for the next five years – if he violates his probation, he would face a Class C misdemeanor.

According to KTVZ, the cat’s owners believe that Lacoss first beat Sweetie, and then hung her from the fence with wire.

5 days, for beating, and killing a helpless innocent animal…. Feral, or not! Seriously, sick human being, and sadly lacking in consequences..shame on that kind of sentencing

Maybe the judge too who gave this 5 day sentence should be in prison and permanently removed from the bench! Mr. Lacoss is a sadist and murderer and a danger to society!

Oh my….. a little spat on the hand. REALLY??? THIS MAN MURDERED A LIVE ANIMAL and he only gets 5 days??? When are the courts, judges, police going to get it through their heads….ANYONE WHO CAN TORTURE OR harm a live animal WILL EVENTUALLY hurt a human? This is bazaar!! This man deserves a MINIMUM of 5 years and a $100,000 fine!!!!! Make that mandatory and it will cut down on these POS that take their pitiful excuses of a life out on animals!!

Someone needs to post his address. Have everyone start sending him letters with pictures of their cats. I’m not advocating violence, but a few eggs on his car and house wouldn’t really be violent, would it? Just make sure HE knows that WE know where he lives…..

That’s not punishment. This will continue until the courts start making the punishment fit the crime. What is wrong with those stupid idiot judges? They think a slap on the hand is enough to make up for the loss of a family member? We grieve for our babies forever. We never get over the loss and the jerks, both judge and perpetrators, go merrily on their way.
They touch one of my babies and the courts won’t have a say.

When are the courts going to get with it! Five days in jail and five years he can’t own a pet. How about a lifetime ban and how about a sentence that actually is a punishment for this killer! Thought the cat was feral, I suppose that’s why he hung the cat on a fence? Are we ever going to see some justice for these poor animals and their owners?

Five days for hanging a cat. This is what is wrong with the system. A slap on the wrist is not what these murderers need. These heinous acts should be felonies.

Scratching his trees? Something tells me he is a cat hater and has killed other cats in his past. I have known cat haters and they are one fucked up bunch.

Yes, can we hang him because again, this is another joke of a sentence for such animal cruelty. Let’s get tough and serious judges.

Oregon has much tougher laws than this! Probably another case of some asshole judge legislating from the bench. Another case of: Watch out who you vote for, people!

Hmmmm. Pennysdaschund….. Oregon! Looks like not all the rotten sickos live in Southern California! We have our share, but no more than any other area. Perpetrators abuse animals because they can. They do so because it makes them feel powerful. They often have little or no control over other aspects of their lives.
Animal Cruelty laws need to be strengthened and enforced. Spend time writing to, and calling, your state legislators and convincing them to pass strict STATE laws with greater punishments. Convince them that cruelty to animals is the first step toward cruelty to children, spouses, elderly. When you want something done by elected officials you must make it worth their while. It must help people, rather than animals because animals cannot vote, (if they could, we would have much better governments!!) and most politicians are interested only in keeping their jobs!
