An Oregon man fell in love with a young dog who is missing his two hind feet. Recenty, Jim Havlinek embarked on a lengthy journey from Salem, Oregon to Pennsylvania to adopt the Chow mix, named “Nubz.”

Nubz lost his feet in a tragic manner…the pup was born to a dog kept at a Missouri puppy mill and due to the stressful conditions which the dogs were forced to exist in, his mother chewed off the puppy’s feet.  Laura Magruder, veterinarian at Evergreen Veterinary Hospital, explained to KGW:

“Puppy mills typically have a lot of caged animals. They don’t have a lot of access to moving around. We don’t know if it was the extra stress of the puppy mill or maybe she just wasn’t ready to be a mom, but she ended up taking it out on her puppies unfortunately.”

The loss of paws never hindered Nubz spirit or his zest for life. Havlinek watched Nubz from afar through Facebook posts and videos, and he could see that the pup was just like any other dog. He stated, “he’s just got such a great personality,” adding, “He doesn’t feel like he’s any different from any other dog.”

Nubz made the trek back to Oregon and now enjoys an amazing life with Havlinek’s other two “very spoiled” dogs.
