On August 27, a beautiful dog named “Luna,” was walked into a busy animal control agency in Miami, Florida and handed over to strangers. A short video captured the exchange, including Luna’s last look at her owner as she walked away.

A woman advocating for Luna’s adoption wrote:
LUNA SURRENDERED TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!
AND JUST LIKE THAT YOU SURRENDER YOUR DOG …. the final moments captured where Luna will never see her mother again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That final look back kills me
Devastating. I’m without words.

I really want to give the benefit of the doubt here and say she “looks” a little sad to be turning in her dog. Still, I would probably keep my dog even if my living arrangements changed. I wouldn’t look for anyplace to live if I couldn’t take my pets. And if a relationship depended on it, HELL NO! There would be NO question about, my pets were with me BEFORE anyone, they’ll be there AFTER anyone. My pets stay, everybody else can go!
I will share this beautiful girl and pray her next home is a happily furever after home that deserves her. Poor Beautiful girl.
But Linda this is a HIGH KILL shelter! She could of found a rescue or re-homed Luna! Owner surrenders are usual the first to be euthanized, sometimes within 24 hrs of surrender! Most of the time these owners are sending their pets to their death….ESPECIALLY at the Miami-Dade shelter! If u truly love u dog u find other options, like the ones I mentioned. Poor beautiful Luna!
People need to realize that taking care of an animal is for LIFE! I don’t care what your excuse is, there is NO excuse good enough! That POS should never be allowed to have another dog. Part of the problem might be that shelters do not take the time to make sure that prospective owners know that but I can also see the other side too, that there are so many animals in the shelters they are happy to adopt them out. We need more education about spaying, neutering, adoptions and generally taking care of the animal you are entrusted with.
You so right Pamela but so many of them die too
How scared and confused they must be when left like this. I know how it tears the heart out of me when I leave mine to board and I know I am coming back for them. Prayers Luna finds a new loving home!
Poor little treasure. The comments are quite right. We don’t know the full story. But yes, a pet is for life. Occasionally life intrudes, Serious illness, serious loss of income, other exceptions. But if you have a pet, you accept the responsibility. If you need a new home, then you look for one that accepts pets, if you don’t find one then you broaden your horizons and keep looking. Bless this little dog Luna, I hope that she is soon in a new loving home.
Speak English! Twat.
Racist much?
Luna I’m so sorry your owners failed you. Is there a face book thread? Didn’t see one.
How long have they had this dog and what was the reason for giving her up? Shelters have become places to drop pets off and never look back, and just assume the dog/cat will get adopted. But, what about the reality of the pet being euthanized (killed). Wonder how these people would feel if they knew Luna could be killed or maybe in a day or too? Would they even care? l always felt that a shelter should notify the former owner or one who dropped off the dog/cat that their animal was killed by the shelter. I know that probably legally you can’t do that, but always wonder if these people really think their animal will be saved. Spay and neuter. States should provide free spay/neuter services and make it mandatory at least until you have this over population of pets constantly being brought into shelters across the United States.
Adrienne
You are 100% right I do think they should know when their pet will die
Let them live with that the rest of their life’s
and mandatory I think is the only way we are going to get this overpopulation under hand
Too many animals die because people think that they are disposal
That bitch needs to be thrown in one of those cages and left.
If anyone recognizes this ugly a** broad….. DO NOT LET HER HAVE ANOTHER PET. There needs to be a national registry for anyone who abandons pets, abuses, tortures or kills them. This brainless, useless waste of skin definitely qualifies for that list. Come on Karma… GET HER GET HER GET HER!!
Terrible people!
This breaks my heart. I hope Luna finds a forever home soon. Will share on FB
I just don’t even know what to say about this abuse of trust anymore! These pet “owners” can seek out rescues or try to re-home their pet! Makes me so sick!!!!
Petharbor is down already. I hope she got adopted.
WHAT A DISGUSTING POS WHO THOUGHT NOTHING OF DROPPING HER DOG OFF AT A SHELTER. TOO BAD HER MOTHER DIDN’T DO THE SAME SHIT TO HER. IT DIDN’T BOTHER HER THE LEAST. ANOTHER WASTED SUBHUMAN ON THIS EARTH. HOPE THE BITCH HAS A ROTTEN FUTURE AHEAD OF HER AND SHE IS MISERABLE.
I adopted a dog a few months ago that is absolutely turning my world upside down! He has lots of bad habits that we are working on, but I would never dream of surrendering him. I consider him a member of the family. I just don’t see how people turn animals in like that, it breaks my heart. If you make a commitment to them, you should keep them and properly take care of them. If it’s not in your heart, don’t bother bringing an animal home. It traumatizes them to lose their family! UGH!
What a beautiful dog. That POS needs banned from EVER owning a dog or pet of any kind again.
Give me one good reason
Luna is no longer listed on Petharbor. Anyone know if she was adopted or rescued?
On face book it comments she was rescued within 24 hrs of being surrendered, but, no mention of what rescue group. It did show her freedom ride.
Linda, thank u for this info!!!! I missed that, would of loved to see her freedom ride!
Cynthia you’re welcome, however, I wish I knew the rescue group. I’m sure it was mentioned somewhere if I had scrolled further down on the face book post.
Luna is a beautiful little DOG. I would have loved to have had her. That person must be heartless.
