A woman running a commercial dog breeding operation is facing just one count of animal cruelty after a massive seizure from her property in South Carolina. According to WPDE News, 70-year-old Donna Keller Lee was running the breeding business in Florence County where 133 dogs were seized in late November.
According to WMBF News, dogs taken from Lee’s property were suffering from a variety of maladies, including “intestinal parasites, giardia, ringworm, tumors, ear and eye infections, eye injuries, badly infected mouths, upper respiratory problems, heartworm and more.” One dog was in such poor condition that humane euthanasia was necessary.
The dozens of dogs rescued from the breeding operation are now being cared for by Valiant: Animal Rescue & Relief in Charleston. On Monday, the rescue group stated, “We are in need of help in caring for these animals.”

! count? Possibly because she is 70 years old? Still not fair. She can go to a rest home but she’s got some bills to pay to get the dogs decent care. Sell her house and put her away. She will be a repeat offender.
70 years old doesn’t necessarily mean she is ready for the nursing home! I am 69 and hardly senile or unable to work and take care of my pets! She deserves more than a slap on the wrist or a trip to a retirement home where she can live off of society after they “sell her house”!

Over 100 dogs seized and she is a commercial dog breeder? Lock her up forever and stop these breeders being allowed to breed dogs for profit. USDA needs to reign in those that claim they are legit breeders yet are nothing more than puppy mills and have multiple litters most of whom are filled with parasites, and generally horrible health issues which becomes the rescues responsibility to treat. There needs to be a crackdown on breeders, legal and backyard and end this epidemic of puppies coming into this world when we can’t even control what is here. Lawmakers, get off your butts and do something constructive.
It seems like a lot of the things on their wish list are not for the animals, but it is great that they took these poor souls.
After 133 dogs being seized, how is it she is facing only 1 count of animal cruelty? What is wrong with this picture! When are our legislators going to take animal cruelty seriously?

WHY can the government, or law enforcement NOT GET RID of these breeders!?!?!? They are only in it for the bucks…and they do not care what condition or how the breeding dogs looks, feel or are cared for. These people are MONSTERS and need to be wiped from the face of the earth!
This should be 1 count of cruelty for each dog at the very least and 1 count for each instance of cruelty! She should never get out of prison!

This old bag was no breeder – she ran a puppy mill and her only damn concern was for the money she could scam out of ignorant people who paid for sick unhealthy dogs. ONE COUNT OF ANIMAL CRUELTY is a joke – she should be charged with 133 counts – one for every dog she neglected. I don’t care if she is 70 or 90 – she is an animal abuser and needs to be charged as such. I am so sick and tired of these dimwitted authorities treating animal cruelty like littering.
