One of the 'best dogs' at shelter has no home

A dog who is described as “one of the best dogs” at the shelter is homeless because his former family gave him up, citing “no time” as the reason for their betrayal. Roscoe, (CC#16-7341) had a home for most of his life, but everything was turned upside down in his world when his family gave him up and walked away.

Roscoe, a three-year-old Labrador retriever mix, is a favorite at the Brookhaven shelter in Long Island, New York. A volunteer described sweet Roscoe:

“he is one of the best dogs in the shelter, with a super personality to match-” and he does well with cats, kittens, kids and other dogs- and he’d do well in any family. Housebroken, up to date on vaccinations and neutered, he waits for his forever home.

Roscoe may have disappeared from his former family’s life – but he has not disappeared. According to shelter notes, he is good with other dogs (and cats!) and he knows several commands. Please help share this young dog’s information and help him find a new (loyal and loving) family. Petharbor link for Roscoe here. Town of Brookhaven Animal Shelter & Adoption Center at 631 286-4940

  1. It always breaks my heart when this happens! I don’t understand the reasoning! We don’t have time or it’s not fitting into our routine! What the hell does that even mean? Is that what you tell your children? Oh sorry we don’t have time for you or you just don’t fit into our routine? I don’t think so! If you get an animal this is a lifetime commitment! This is not a dress that you say oh wrong color! This is a living being! This being depends on you for everything! Yet time and again these little beings are thrown to the curb! It’s real simple if you can’t make the commitment for the life of that animal don’t get it!

  2. OMG! How cruel! Their loss will be someone else’s treasure! What a loss poor excuse to dump a beautiful pet at a shelter! EVERYONE knows that shelters kills dogs! They DID NOT love this beauty or they would of found him a safe loving home! At the very least they could of found a rescue and not a shelter that kills dogs for being homeless. Being a homeless dog is a death sentence for MILLIONS of loving, healthy dogs! Makes me sick and outrageous me beyond belief! Too many stupid humans view dogs and cats as a disposable possession and its unforgivable!!

  3. Roscoe deserves a family that considers part of it, not to be dumped – I hate people that treat animals so poorly. I hope he gets the safe loving home he obviously never had before.

  4. When will people learn this is a commitment and if you can’t you shouldn’t have an animal heartless humans when will you learn this isn’t a toy that you can cuddle then throw away when it no longer suits you
What is needed is a contract that if you break it in any way you loose something that means the world to you and pay the price for your childless behaviour and neglect to fill your obligations to a being that is in your care can you imagine how that animal thinks ????????????????????????????????????you cast me aside like a rag doll unwanted and obsolete ????????????????????????

  5. How could they throw away a beautiful dog like Roscoe? He sounds like he really is “one of the best dogs ever”.
Ridiculous excuse, even for these POS. They should never have another dog. They will just keep on giving “excuses” for why they have to abandon the dog. They don’t have any conception of the word commitment,
Someone please give this wonderful, beautiful dog a good forever loving home.
