Too old: Lucky’s heart was broken when his family dumped him at shelter

“Too old” is what Lucky’s family told the staff at the Carson Animal Care Center when they surrendered him on Wednesday. The 12-year-old Border collie’s eyes followed his family’s departure as they walked out. The dog hasn’t given up though; he continues to watch and wait. Lucky wasn’t very lucky! Volunteers shook their heads in sad disbelief:

“LUCKY is 12 and he needs your help now; his heart was broken today when his family left him. Please SHARE for his life; he’s SO special and a FOSTER or ADOPTER would save him. He has not been neutered.  (I will be available on 6/4 may be an error) His former family gave him up because they thought he had gotten too old.”

Click here for Lucky’s Pet Harbor listing. “My name is Lucky and I am described as a male, black and white Border Collie. The shelter thinks I am about 12 years old. I have been at the shelter since May 31, 2017.” For more information about this animal, call Los Angeles County Animal Control – Carson at (310) 523-9566. Ask for information about animal ID number A1652599. A Facebook page for this dog can be followed here.

View Lucky’s video here. Have you ever seen such a sad dog? At the end of the video, the loyal dog returns to the rear of his shelter cage, lies down and watches and waits – hoping his family will show up at anytime and take him home. Share this senior’s plight with approved rescue organizations, friends, family and social media contacts. Sharing saves lives, and we are all that Lucky has now.

PLEASE SOMEONE STEP UP and rescue ‘Lucky’ – make him really lucky and give him the safe loving home he was denied because he was a senior dog – HOW anyone could be so cruel and uncaring is beyond me – to dump a dog because they are elderly is so cruel and I truly hope that those that do this find themselves dumped in a 3rd rate nursing home and THEN they will see how it feels.

WHY??????? Border collies are GREAT dogs! They’re loyal, loving, and oh so much smarter than their humans so much of the time! I don’t understand how anyone could have one of these wonderful dogs in their home and do this. Someone has to rescue him!

This breaks my heart. Makes me so sad to hear this kind of thing. I don’t understand how someone can do that?!! How can u raise a dog his whole life then just give him away when he becomes “too old”? All that dog wants to do is love and protect his family that threw him away. What a bunch of assholes!!!!!! I wish I could give Lucky some lovins!!! What a precious animal he is.

This makes me so mad and sad. One of my dogs is 14 1/2 and the other is 11 yrs old and I can’t ever imagine surrendering them to a shelter because they are too old. This family should never be allowed to have another living pet. I hope Lucky finds a home that will adore and love him forever.

I agree are they getting a new pet who is younger. Will they dump that pet when it gets to old. All pets get old. What do they think is going to happen to him. They should go on the animal registry not to be able to adopt another pet ever

WTH?????? TOO OLD?????? My dog is 14.5 years OLD-she was born in my closet. The love and loyalty she showered me with-there is NO choice but to be with her through to the end-it is my privilege!! What is so terribly wrong with the human race that when your dog is”old” you just throw them AWAY!!!!! Please there better be KARMA. When the humans that did this to their LOYAL dog grow OLD may NOBODY help them-you reap what you sow -sham on those disgusting humans with NO soul.

Border Collies are the smartest dog of all breeds. I’m calling if I can adopt. If so I need transport to MA, but, from this shelter in CA I doubt they will not allow adoption out of state.

Hope someone dumps these heartless humans when they get “too old”. If they have kids, I hope they realize they are teaching their children a lesson in how to treat them in the future when they ( the parents) become a “burden”.
