Old and too afraid to get out of her bed, does that mean Spammy should die in a shelter?

UPDATE: Rescued! 😉

Meet Spammy; she’s 15-years-young and is no longer wanted by her family because she’s too old. Does that mean this dog should die  alone in a strange room with strangers holding her down while she quietly gasps for her last breath? Her owners said she was ill – but not even a short explanation provided as the family Spammy knew her entire life, walked away with barely a “good dog” pat on her head.

And that may very well be the plight of this senior Jack Russell terrier. Click here for her Pet Harbor adoption listing. “My name is Spammy and I am described as a spayed female, white and brown Jack (Parson) Russell Terrier. The shelter thinks I am about 15 years old. I have been at the shelter since Jun 06, 2017.” For more information about this animal, call Los Angeles County Animal Control – Carson at (310) 523-9566. Ask for information about animal ID number A5074731. Follow her Facebook page here.

A volunteer who met this frightened little dog offered the following information on Tuesday:

“SPAMMY is 15 and her family dropped her off and said she was Ill. She can’t see well and she is so confused; she hasn’t moved from that bed. Please help her, she will break your heart.”

Please share this senior’s plight with approved rescue organizations, friends, family and social media contacts. Sharing saves lives. At the current time, the Carson Shelter has 160 dogs needing help. Please consider adopting or fostering your next best friend. (Photos and video of Spammy courtesy of Saving Carson Shelter Dogs.)

  1. There needs to be a way to hold pet owners accountable for their lack of empathy to what they do to their pets. This is crazy!! Also, there needs to be a way to get these pets to people outside of their state to caring individuals that will take these dogs in and care for them. This is another dog I would take, but restrictions prevent me from doing so. 🙁

    • if you punish owners for bringing a dog to a shelter then the alternative will be 1000s of dogs abondened on roadsides or a brick tied to their neck and droped in a lake.
      Your solution!?

  2. OMFG this broke my heart reading this and watching the video. This owner needs a kick up the butt by dumping Spammy. When you take on a dog it means for life and not get rid of it because she is to old. I hope Spammy will find a new loving owner very soon. I would take her myself but sadly i live in Australia

  3. Please save beautiful senior Spammy don’t let her die in a shelter. Please someone save her she deserves better. Praying for you Spammy.

  4. What a POS so-called family……..

I have a blind, quadriplegic furbaby with liver cancer and it would never occur to me to do anything other than care for him and love him for as long as I am blessed with the gift of him alive…….

These POS’s deserve to live the rest of their miserable lives in pain and to burn in Hell forever for their cruelty………

Hope this little treasure can be saved to live with a REAL family……..

    • Bunny P. you are one of the walking, hugging incredibles .
honest to god where do people like you come from?

  5. Sooooo unacceptable and unforgivable!! U will NEVER convince me that the assholes that dump their elderly animals at kill shelters or ANY SHELTER EVER TRUELY LOVED THEIR PET!!! For if u loved ur pet u would never do this!!! PLEASE SOMEONE HELP THIS BABY!!!!! OMG

  6. Look at Spammy’s sweet face. She’s so depressed, abandoned by her family at her most vulnerable. It’s impossible to know how much longer Spammy has left. She may have more life left in her than her family cared about. Either way, she does not deserved to die in a place she’s clearly terrified about. She needs a foster (furever?), pledges and a rescue group. Please share to help her.

    • Goodness me!
Lets all hope nelly winns lotto!
Because thats what it would take for nelly to adopt a small senior dog off a kill line.
      Because Nelly is awesome!
      Isnt she soo cute?

  7. Horrible! I’m assuming the owners didn’t want to pay the necessary vets bills. They probably will end up adopting a puppy now that they dumped Spammy.

  8. Your faithful elderly dog is ill, you take them to the Vet! Your faithful elderly dog isn’t able to be treated, you have them put down with you by their side! You DON’t take them to your nearest “kill” shelter and dump them. That is the least you owe a 15 year old dog! I hope and pray Spammy finds someone to love her for the rest of her days.

  9. I still don’t understand how people could abandon their dogs because they are too old. I always hope my senior babies would pass peacefully at home with me by their side. This woman did not want to pay the vet bills and decided it was easier to surrender the dog to a shelter. How shameful and heartless!!!

  10. This is a piss poor example of what an owner should NOT be – Anyone who would be so callous to dump a senior animal and leave it scared and confused in a shelter should be nailed to a tree and used as target practice. Spammy was good enough UNTIL she got old – hope your family dumps your miserable butt in a 3rd rate nursing home and leaves you scared and confused. PLEASE some kind person adopt Spammy and give her a safe loving home for her remaining years. This infuriates me – no one who REALLY loves their animal would ever do this.

MERCI.
