A severely obese dog, left homeless after the death of her elderly owner, has been receiving life-changing (as well as life-saving!) help.  According to the Huffington Post, Strudel, a golden retriever mix, has been working on “biggest loser canine edition” for several months and she is making astonishing progress.

When Strudel was first taken in by Hearts for Hounds, she weighed a whopping 80+ pounds; far too much for her frame. The excess weight was taking a toll on Strudel’s joints and impacting her overall quality of life.

When Kristy and John Cotthaus, owners of Zoom Room Virginia Beach, a dog training business, caught wind of Strudel’s plight, they decided to offer a custom-made doggy workout program to her for free. Strudel took to her specially created agility course like a pro – in fact, the trainers usually motivate dogs with treats, but Strudel was content to work for praise alone.

With hard work, a special diet and some thyroid medication, Strudel has steadily been losing weight, and feeling much better. Strudel is still waiting on one very important thing…a new home! Interested in giving this beautiful girl a home? Visit her rescuers at this link.
