Dog surrendered - family not up for the responsibility
Spread the love

A 15-year-old dog, in the twilight of his life, is suddenly homeless after his former family decided that they were no longer up for the responsibility of dog ownership. The dog, a cocker spaniel named Charlie, was surrendered to the Carson Animal Services facility in California on April 22 – because owner surrendered dogs do not get the luxury of a safe period for “stray hold,” Charlie immediately became available for adoption.

Shortly after Charlie arrived to the busy animal control agency, the volunteer-run Facebook page, Saving Carson Shelter Dogs, wrote:

My former family who owned me for more than 5 years had to give me up because they just weren’t up for the responsibility of a pet. But they said that I spend most of my time indoors. I seem to be good with small children. I am housetrained. I am good on a leash. I am just learning obedience skills. I seem to get along well with dogs and cats.

This senior dog has lost everything that he once knew – unfortunately, the facility is full and he is at risk of not making it out alive. Please take a moment to network Charlie’s adoption information and help him find a reputable rescue agency, or a loving owner, before it’s too late.

  1. I lost my 15-year-old Suki just one year ago on the 20th of this month. She was having accidents in the house for the last year or so of her life. She had to be fed special food. She took more time to care for than all our other furbabies combined. I don’t regret a single moment of that time. Anyone who can dump a senior dog (or ANY dog, cat, or other pet) at a shelter should be drawn and quartered, tarred and feathered, strung up by some body part (they obviously don’t have balls), and dumped in a kennel to live out the rest of THEIR days. This disgusts me! Sharing and sending prayers.

  2. Really? It took them 5 years to figure out they weren’t up for the responsibility of ownership of a dog? From the sounds of this dog, he doesn’t require much care to begin with. Feed him, let him out once in a while how hard can that be? So here we have another owner surrender to “Carson” don’t these people know that owner surrenders are the first to be put down? Or do they even care! I will be sharing this poor dog, don’t know how much good it will do since I’m on the east coast but I am so sick of seeing these precious old dogs dumped like this! I don’t want to read any excuses for these POS owners either, there is NO excuse for this!

  3. Don’t People know that when you have a Pet, It’s yours for the Life of your Pet. You do not Give up your Pet to any Animal Shelter. I hope Karma will come a get you.

  4. What is wrong with people?????? Do Not get a dog if you cannot handle any form responsibility !!! I hope when your ‘twilight’ years arrive you are also put in ‘shelter’ because no one cares!!!!

  5. Just great another senior dog dumped at a shelter because the owners don’t give a shit! If I ever win the lottery I’m starting a sanctuary for senior dogs and cats.

  6. OMG! I will always feel that jerks that do this are nothing more than evil monsters! I hope karma comes back around and they find themselves in the same situation…..old,alone without a soul that gives a damn!

  7. People ARE SO different… My husband and I have not gone on a vacation for 17 years…. and we have a 18 , 17, 15, and 3 -13 year olds …. unless they become extremely ill as our 16 year old ( last year with throat cancer) they are with us for the duration….. of course we don’t have children to haul us off to the nursing home either!!! Hopefully these complete CALIFORNIA ASSHOLES HAVE CHILDREN THAT WILL DO THE SAME FOR THEM!!!!

  8. How sad! Once again a family dumped their senior dog in a kill shelter because they don’t want the responsibility associated with caring for a pet. And to the owners: As you enter into your golden years, I hope your family dumps you in a public nursing facility where you’ll languish until death visits upon you. When that day comes I want you think of Charlie, the poor senior dog you betrayed. You are a poor excuse for a human being. I hope Charlie finds a loving home. Please don’t let this dog die.

  9. What is with senior dumping in the South Bay? Carson just had another senior dumped by his family. Please read the article below about Charlie, a 15 yr old black cocker spaniel. Unfortunately, he has three strikes against him: Senior, Black and Owner surrender. They can get him to the top of the euth list when this overfull shelter starts destroying dogs. Charlie needs to get out of the shelter asap. He needs a foster home, pledges and a rescue group to help him find his furever retirement home. Please help save his life by sharing his Facebook pages.

  10. I FUCKING HATE people that can just give up their family member like that. Come on people use your head and think of the poor animal….yes they are cute as puppies, but if you were a true animal lover, that bond would only get stronger to the point that you would live in your vehicle or on the street before ever giving up your pets.

  11. This story breaks my heart…this dog has loved you with everything in them & how do you repay their love? You put them in a high kill shelter….come on people…if you aren’t gonna love them for their whole life, don’t get a pet….this baby is confused & heartbroken….please please please someone adopt this precious baby and give her a living home for the rest of her days…..

  12. Oh poor sweet Charlie, senior pets are absolutely amazing creatures…so wise and thoughtful… The exact opposite of people. Someone haul him off to me, i miss my senior old men. Charlie I pray the family that deserves you comes quickly….humans are very INHUMANE and I am being kind. I’m sorry baby.

  13. J’espère que les anciens maîtres finiront à la rue quand ils seront vieux. Pas de pitié pour les fumiers. Je partage en espérant qu’il y a dans ce monde de barbares une vraie famille pour cette âme innocente lâchement abandonné.

  14. PLEASE – someone near Gardena California step up and give Charlie a safe loving home for his twilight years – ANYONE that would dump a 15 year old dog deserves a megdose of street justice – how friggin’ cruel can you be????? I hope when you are old and gray, your kids decide they don’t want the responsibility of taking care of you and dump your ass in a 3rd rate nursing home where you reside in filth and bedsores.
