For years a North Ridgeville, Ohio animal control officer has garnered unfavorable and at times disturbing headlines for a number of alleged animal cruelty incidents. On Wednesday, Animal Control Officer Barry Accorti was fired after he smashed the skulls of baby bunnies. According to a statement from the North Ridgeville Police Department, Accorti was fired for “performance issues.”

Accorti’s latest disturbing incident involved a local resident, Sheldon Jones, who found several baby rabbits while mowing the lawn. Not knowing what to do with the little ones, the man called local authorities who notified Accorti. According to Fox News, Jones, who thought the rabbits would be placed and eventually freed from a wildlife rescue, was shocked when the animal control officer began to smash their tiny heads against the tailgate of his truck:

“When the officer got out here, he took the rabbits,” Jones said. “We didn’t exchange very many words. And he went over to the bed of his truck at the end of the driveway and smashed their necks on the bed of his truck. He never asked me if we wanted to keep them because had he asked I would have said yes,” Jones said. “I had no idea he was going to kill them. He never told me that.”

This, however was not the first time Accorti has been accused of cruelty. In June 2013, a local mom found a litter of feral kittens in the woodpile behind her home. As a responsible citizen, she called the local Animal Control for help. When Accorti arrived, he told the woman the shelters were full and pulled out his gun and shot the kittens – right in front of little children who screamed in fright and shock; Accorti telling them the kittens were “going to kitty heaven.”Even though there was an investigation and an outpouring of community disgust towards the death of the five kittens and the circumstances with the children, the police chief told people to move along and that there was nothing to see.

And just one year later – the same officer shot another helpless animal; again in front of children. In a report by the Chronicle, another disturbing incident took place in June 2014. A baby raccoon captured inside of a cage was shot twice by Accorti in front of three children:

“This is the second time in a year,”  Michelle Kearsey, a local resident, said as she cited the need for a change in policies governing the handling of nuisance animal calls. “That raccoon could have been moved. This officer has shown no regard for the children of this community. People are tired of it. That animal was defenseless and in a cage. It’s like the kittens.”

In the police department’s statement on Wednesday, the organization followed up the announcement of Accorti’s termination with the following explanation:

“There should have been better communication and understanding of perception and sensitivity as well as following established protocol.”

Smith wants animal cruelty charges pressed against Accorti.

  1. I remember the incident with the kittens well. My blood still boils when I think about it. Only a sociopath would do that in front of children! He needlessly traumatized them for the rest of their lives! This guy has no regard for life and has gotten away with this for years and years. How many other animals have suffered and died at his hands because the idiotic police chief is obviously one more piece of trash with NO regard for the lives entrusted to him? These cannot be the only victims, just the only ones we know about! Those poor, helpless bunnies didn’t deserve this any more than the kittens or the raccoon. This is the fault of the murderer AND the chief who refused to fire him. BOTH of them belong in jail.

  2. Just another loser with pent up issues getting a job of authority and abusing his power. I sure hope his boss gets in trouble for not dealing with this goof sooner

  3. How was that psycho creep allowed to keep his job til now???!!! That’s how they all used to be but he’s one the worst I ve heard ! Unbelievable!

  4. What I like to know why in the hell did it take 3 years to fired this baster of an officer BarryAccorli . All these horrible, killing of inocent little soul. So where was the rest of the staff , I am sure he has a boss! Karma to you Mr. Accorli, hope you have no peace in your heart, soul and mine for the rest if your pathetic life.

  5. I remember reading about the kitten incident and yet this POS has been employed and continued to do this since 2013? WHY? He needs to be punished and shame on the community for not doing something about this monster before this!

  6. It took them long enough to get rid of the evil, sick asshole. It should have happened LONG AGO!!! I hope karma finds this POS and wipes him from existence

  7. I’m so upset and outraged that I will refrain from saying what I would want to say about this outrageous senseless killing of helpless BABY animals!! This town needs to oust this police chief too, because he obviously condones this dispicable outrageous behavior! If I lived in this town I’d would be ashamed to admit it,in fact I’d move ASAP!!

  8. This inhumane piece of s**t is a danger to society. He needs to be locked away somewhere and FORGOTTEN. RIP to all that suffered at his hands.

  9. Kill this murdering soulless evil fucktard with extreme prejudice..him n the god damned cop who apparently supports what he’s doing!!

  10. This is not the only animal control asshole who is doing the wrong things! I was the one who got the animal control asshole in my community fired! This asshole was gun happy! He was shooting bunnies cats raccoons opposums and dogs because he didnt want to do the paperwork, and didnt want to be bothered with taking them to a shelter! Some of these animal control assholes are sadistic and think they can abuse animals and not be fired! I have said from day one any body who wants to be involved with animals as far as being in animal control needs to take classes at a local college in animal care and husbandry! These assholes dont know anything about the habits of animals or any thing about animals!

  11. Seriously? The ACO should have been fired years ago. What is wrong with the authorities? I sometimes wonder if these people who are animal control officers hide behind their jobs only to delight themselves in abusing animals. Makes you think what they do when they’re off the clock.

  12. And how many animals were cruelly killed by this maggot named Barry Accorti was FINALLY fired?? Way too many – apparently North Ridgeville Animal Control approved of his vile methods because it sure took long enough to get rid of him. Maybe, just maybe Barry the Bastard will get his just due when some kind person smashes his head against a tractor trailer grille. Please take pictures.

  13. This piece of shit should be charged and prosecuted like any other person for cruelty to the weakest among us. Those poor babies were robbed of their chance for a happy loving life. He should be fined, beat, shot and thrown in jail for life. Those poor kids will have to live their lives with those visions in their heads for as long as they live so they lost a part of their happy childhood years, also. The monster deserves the harshest punishment possible before he spends eternity in hell.

  14. WHY was this MONSTER kept? He should have been fired after the first incident…. this is just gross negligence on the part of the city who retained him. Acortti and HIS SUPERVISOR should be terminated. He enjoyed killing and he LOVED having an audience. As bad as this all is…… HE DID IT IN FRONT OF CHILDREN? really??
