There will be no jail time for a man who kicked a dog hard enough to fracture the dog’s ribs. According to the Iowa-City Press Citizen, 22-year-old Lucas Van Orden V was sentenced to two years of probation on Monday after he pleaded guilty to a charge of animal abuse.

Orden faced the animal abuse charge after he kicked a dog named “Jasper,” who was at the Creature Comfort Vet Center in Iowa City, Iowa, for grooming. The dog was seriously injured – according to KCRG News, the dog suffered several broken ribs, bruised lungs, and subcutaneous emphysema. Jasper had to be held for several nights at an emergency veterinary clinic after the cruel incident.

Orden lost his job at the veterinary clinic and he has apologized for his actions. Orden has stated that he was “publicly shamed” by strangers after the incident came to light.

Jasper has since recovered from the injuries which happened last July.

  1. Orden’s face should be posted in every veterinarian’s office and dog groomer facility – this hunk of sewer slime SHOULD be in jail but as usual the judicial system for animals sucks. He will do this again if given the chance – personally, I’d love to see him get some serious street justice. Jasper deserved better.

    • They should. I would. Not so much for the money, which he’d probably never pay anyway, but just to keep his punishment of public shaming and screwing up his life going since he’s not getting the jail time he deserves.

  2. Poor Lucas Van Orden V, he lost his job and was “publicly shamed”, Sounds like that will be the worst punishment he gets out of this! This POS should have at least had to pay the vet bills for Jasper! When is our judicial system going to start taking animal abuse seriously? I suppose if his child misbehaves he will be kicking the child!

    • D’accord avec vous, il devrait être sévèrement condamné pour avoir meurtri cette pauvre âme innocente.
La justice n’existe pas dans ce monde de barbares.

    • And his being publically shamed is a bad thing? I guess since he apologized it’s all okay. He will do it again. He should be paying off vet bills. There is a need for an animal abuse registry.

  3. He’s lucky that wasn’t my dog, I believe in street justice for these type of people. Especially when our justice system doesn’t seem to care about the abuse of animals. I hope he never finds another job involving animals and I hope he is sterile because he probably will be a child abuser.

  4. I find it incredulous that the “family business” where this heinous abuse occurred was not compelled to reimburse poor Jasper’s veterinary expenses – and additional, punitive damages – with this confessed abuser making restitution to THEM over time!

And don’t count on ANY support from the Iowa government with respect to animal protections – not as long as Congressman Steve King (R).. a reprobate who fought penalties for attending dog fights, opposed legislation to stiffen penalties for interstate transportation of animals for the purpose of fighting, and introduced amendments that would have prevented state laws promoting animal welfare and food safety, with one particularly egrigious proposal “to wipe out state laws restricting the sale of dog and cat meat.”

This, in a state which enacted legislation to criminalize the REPORTING of animal abuse in your “food factory farms”, where animal are raising and slaughtered to feed our own reprehensible species?

Not likely that ANY protections for ANY animals will be introduced or strengthened – let alone, enforced.

  5. Hopefully the world wakes up and provides the same protection to animals as they do children, since animals need our voices to speak in their behalf it seems fair to hold abusers responsible, don’t want to go to jail, or pay a fine etc. simple don’t be an abusive person, if there were laws protecting animals it would help prevent more incidents, since animal abusers abuse and are not held accountable they keep repeating their abusive ways, after all the definition of insanity is doing the same thing expecting different results, please do something new and solution oriented, that would be nice!

  6. You can tell volumes about a person by the way they treat animals. This person should have received maximum punishment for his crime. I suspect he abuses more then animals

  7. He was publicly shamed??? He needs a PUBLIC FLOGGING ….. he was an AH and deserves to be fined, jailed or something! I hope Jaspers family at least sues the creep…. he deserves no sympathy!!!

  8. A corgie!?
You bruce leed up a corgie
    Your a real he man.

What do you do when your not working?
do you Poison hungry stray cats at CVS?

  9. This thing worked at a animals hospital? I don’t think so! If that had been my dog he would have 2 broken legs and a few broken ribs of his own! There is no excuse for this kind of violence!

  10. Ohhhh NO,no,no,no,no…….that ass should have been charged, and should have had certification and license suspended from grooming. You don’t just groom dogs you know, not if you run a business.

  11. This sociopath has probably done this before, and I would include people in on that.To beat a defenseless, dog like that is a damned serious offense. No jail,no reparation for the savagery that dog experienced is bullshit.I don’t live in the state, but I will be calling them about this.

  12. No justice for animal abuster, every shap and form tells you aloot about the country. This is unexaptable. Animal abusers becaome murders onday. So stop this before it getscout of hand. Only cowards fight a dog that cant defend himself. Sick!!!

  13. What a POS. It’s hard to distinguish from those that have a love for animals and those that don’t when hiring in the capacity of animal care. I’ve heard horror stories from vet techs and groomers that worked with people whom they thought were animal lovers. Perhaps a psych eval should be placed to weed out those assholes.

  14. I think he must be related to the judge, or the judge is no animal lover, there should be special courts with compassionate judges and jury, so he said sorry, oh whoopie, they are mere words, empty and mean nothing, if that was my dog he would not be able to walk into of the court room never mind walking out. the scum bag

  15. He should have been given JAIL TIME along with PUBLIC SERVICE TIME to reflect this crime! There is NO difference between ANIMAL ABUSE and CHILD ABUSE! They are the same! Shame on you JUDGE who only gave him probation! That is not enough for this crime!

  16. Doesn’t surprise me. Iowa City is only 30 miles from where I live. It’s a college town and pretty much anything goes. So, this guy said he was publicly shamed. BFD. That’s not good enough.

  17. Post this evil piece of crap picture on every social media network. Put signs all over his neighborhood. Everytime someone sees him kick the shit out of him.

  18. No respect or love for our dogs? No jail time for a criminal?
This unfair decision gives to these criminals the right to continue to abuse our dogs!
    SHITTY law!

  19. He needs a good kicking himself but that would make us as bad as him. He should never ever be allowed near animals and he should never be allowed to own one He should have got some jail time though
