No holiday festivities for dumped dogs

There would be no holiday festivities on Easter Sunday for the unfortunate dogs who found themselves alone in a frightening animal control kennel run. There would be no laughter of children, no sniffing for hidden eggs, no love for the dogs who were cast aside by their families.

Instead, dogs surrendered to the Harris County Animal Services facility in Houston, Texas, spent their day locked away behind bars. Instead of laughter, these dogs heard the whines and cries from other homeless dogs who no longer had their own bed, their own toys…their own families.

On Easter Sunday, the volunteer-run Facebook page, Harris County Animal Shelter Volunteers wrote:

We thought holidays were for spending time with family, not for dumping family members at the shelter.
These are just a few of the owner surrenders of Harris County Animal Shelter.
Houston, we don’t have an animal problem. WE HAVE A PEOPLE PROBLEM.

Dogs surrendered to an open-intake animal control agency are killed first when space becomes an issue – the dogs who were betrayed by their owner are the ones most at risk of never walking free again.

Do you live in the Houston area? Please watch the video, visit the shelter’s Facebook page, and network to help save a life.

  1. Yes this is a people problem but still this doesn’t mean that the Shelters can’t have any Easter toys or anything to Bright their loneliness be that BAD. Surprise them al Shelters should. Thanks Rosemary Martinez.

  2. Why? What was their crime? It’s not right you have babies they are with you till death, not to be dumped in a shelter to live or die.

  3. That makes me so angry that people can be so heartless and cruel to a love unconditionally animals. Where is these idiot owners and their unconditional love ????????????????????????

  4. BINGO! No truer statement that that,IT IS A PEOPLE PROBLEM!!! Humanity has created ALL heartbreaking problems out there with dogs, and it’s humanity that needs to step up and start finding the solutions to get it under control! This killing of homeless loving healthy dogs is NOT the answer to the problem,it’s so wrong and so immoral! Could you imagine if people would willing stop breeding dogs for two to five years the impact that would have on the overpopulation of dogs? How I wish that every state had mobile spay and neuter vans that could offer services for free for at least a five year period with willing veterinarians volunteering their free time and expertise! We have to try and start somewhere and we have to try new solutions, unfortunately humanity see dogs as DISPOSABLE and the life and well being of dogs rank at the bottom of societies issues. So wrong, since humans domesticated the species of dogs then created this horrible problem! Breaks my heart!

  5. Where is this chihuahua now, I’m missing a female who looks %100 like her, me and granddaughter are devastated, we been missing her since April 19th, from spring Branch. She’s been mine since birth. Help out there. Her age us about 5 yr.old

  6. Years ago my father in law told me we couldn’t have pets because he was “allergic” (my husband grew up with a dog and a cat)……
I told him the animals live here you don’t…….
We have pets and don’t care about visiting relatives’ “allergies”…… they can medicate or not visit…..
