Why is this adorable, newborn puppy green?! The golden retriever puppy, born last week to a three-year-old dog named “Rio,” was the only pup in the litter with minty green fur reported The Daily Mail.
Louise Sutherland, Rio’s owner, was shocked when she saw the green pup, she said, “‘It was all hands on deck but then as the puppies started to arrive, we noticed that one of the puppies had green fur! We couldn’t believe it.”
The uniquely colored puppy has been given a “green name” to match his fur – “Forest.” While puppies born with green fur is quite uncommon, it’s not unheard of. Earlier this year, a puppy named “Fifi,” was born to a Chocolate Labrador retriever.
The odd coloring happens when the fur on light-colored pups comes in contact with biliverden – a substance which is found in placenta. Forest may be green now, but the color is already fading and soon it will be gone for good.
If not for his name, and photo proof, nobody would probably believe what he looked like when he first entered the world.

Most unusual. As for the pup being named Forest, that sounds okay. I hope that he leads a long and happy life.
