Desperate cries from an abused dog led police to a suitcase behind an abandoned building in Hollywood, Florida on Tuesday morning about 1:00 a.m.. And there police spotted a dog’s paw sticking out of the blue hard textured suitcase. Ollie, the young pup had been left for dead.
The dog had been stabbed 50 times, beaten and stuffed inside a suitcase. Ollie underwent surgery Tuesday at VCA Hollywood Animal Hospital. He had another operation on Wednesday to suture several wounds on his back according to his vet, Dr. Nicole Patterson.
“Thank you everyone who have responded and reacted to the wonderful media coverage about this horrific incident. We’ve received more than 400 emails and 75-80 phone calls asking for an update, wanting to foster/adopt or how to donate. We have reached and more than exceeded our goal for his vet care. So thank you all,” posted Grateful Paws Dog and Cat Rescue who stepped up to care for the dog after authorities reached out for help.
When Ollie is released from the veterinary hospital, the rescue organization is reaching out for some specialized assistance:
“#1: HE IS GOING TO BE FINE — He had a surgery yesterday to stitch up the wounds on his head (to the bone) and today had surgeries to address the wounds on his chest and torso. Another surgery may be necessary in a day or so.
#2: When he is ready to leave the hospital, rather than a foster home, we prefer to place him in an adoptive home. He will have to go back to Hollywood Animal Hospital for frequent bandage changes and follow-up visits, so we are preferring to keep him nearby. IF you are interested in adopting, please download our application: www.gratefulpaws.org.
#3: He is new to us – we do not know how he is with children, cats and really, other dogs. Right now, he is still pretty heavily sedated, so his behavior with dogs he meets at the hospital could be drug induced and not totally accurate – YET. And since we have no history on him, we will CANNOT place him in a home with small children.
#4: His tail was wagging this morning. “
Jan Milbyer, founder of Grateful Paws, stated in her 18 years of doing animal rescue, this was one of the most horrific cases of abuse she has ever experienced. Updates for Ollie will be available on the organization’s Facebook page. Anyone with information is asked to contact Hollywood Police at 954.967.4411 or Crimestoppers at 954.493.8477.
A GoFundMe fundraiser has been set up to help with Ollie’s medical expenses.
