New life for puppy abandoned with note in airport

In early July, a tiny puppy was abandoned in the McCarren Airport in Las Vegas, Nevada – accompanying the puppy was a heartbreaking note from his former owner. The Chihuahua, named “Chewy,” had apparently been living with someone in an abusive relationship and the woman feared for the pup’s safety.

Chewy’s owner had written:

My owner was in an abusive relationship and couldn’t afford me to get on the flight. She didn’t want to leave me with all her heart but she has NO other option. My ex-boyfriend kicked my dog when we were fighting and he has a big knot on his head.

Today, Chewy’s traumatic life is gone and a new life awaits. According to WMUR News, after receiving media attention from across the nation, and a deluge of adoption applications, a new family for the pup has been selected. The identity of the adoptive family is being kept private, at least for now.

The woman who wrote the note which Chewy was found with has never been identified – hopefully she knows that her puppy is now safe and happy. Original article about this situation here.

  1. What a wonderful way to start the day!!! I am sure Chewy’s new family will love him!!! The number of pets in situations like this is overwhelming. And laws do very little to help the human victim let alone the pets. This needs to change, but until we have lawmakers with balls to do something, DV victims will continue to suffer and sometimes die. Many lawmakers are more interested in advancing their political career!

  2. Thankfully someone caring found him and did the right thing and got him to a rescue and the help he so needed to live a full and happy life!!! Bless the caring person that found him and got him help!!!

  3. please redirect worthy adoptors to Texas and florida shelters. the second most euthanized dog is a chi and back wood South and Texas shelters both have a glut of these precious little chewys.
    now that s a mouthful

  4. The person who abandoned Chewy is damned lucky someone who cared found him – it could easily have gone another way – Chewy is now adopted and happy into a safe loving home.
