In Cypress, Texas, volunteers from the CAMO Rescue group stepped up at the last minute to rescue a senior Shih Tzu from the local Harris County open admission shelter on Wednesday. Never had the group seen so much neglect propounded upon a single dog.

“Some days in rescue are just overwhelming and you just want to cry then kick someone’s ass!,” posted the group’s moderator on their Facebook page as the disturbing photos of a tiny dog just moments away from having been euthanized at a nearby shelter were posted.  “How could anyone let this sweet boy (shelter thought it was a girl) get in such bad shape? The smell, omg (sp) the smell is overwhelming. I’ve NEVER seen so much neglect. His ear is full of pus and his back end has ruptured – probably an anal gland. His toe nails are 1/2 ” long. He has cataracts yet he’s grateful and sweet and hungry. Just made us all want to cry.”

And that was the rescue world’s introduction to Trooper – obviously named for the little dog’s perseverance and survival mode. By far he was the worst smelling dog the group had ever saved; the horrible odors caused by his ruptured ear, ruptured anal gland and his rotten teeth. Trooper is expected to need surgery, but first things first – and on Wednesday afternoon, the polite little guy received a bath, a haircut and a gentle grooming. No doubt the years of neglect are heartbreaking, however Trooper’s future promises to bring love and hopefully a forever home.

  1. I’m beyond sickened by this! Poor little sweetheart, how he managed to stay alive is nothing short of a miracle! I have such angst over the way our country refuses to enact and enforce laws that severely punish the scum that treat dogs in this way! Why can’t law makers see that this is a problem that is LEGALLY allowed to flourish and grow and without the much needed laws in place to punish people who neglect and inflict harm on companion animals we will NEVER be able to slow this horror down! God bless Trooper and all of those wonderful, kind and compassionate people who stepped in and helped this sweet, innocent, suffering dog! I will fight the neglect and abuse of companion animals till the day I die!

    • I AGREE WITH YOU! HE IS SUCH A CUTE LITTLE GUY. I WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND PEOPLE AND I USE THAT TERM LOOSELY. PEOPLE IS TOO GOOD OF A WORD FOR THEM MORE LIKE POS. WHY DO THEY GET A PET AND NOT TAKE CARE OF IT. IF THEY CAN NO LONGER CARE FOR A PET FIND A NEW HOME FOR HIM OR HER DONT MAKE THE ANIMAL SUFFER FOR YOUR STUPIDITY I HOPE THE ANIMAL SHELTER WHO TOOK HIM IN ARE GOING TO HAVE THESE PREVIOUS OWNERS BROUGHT UP ON CHARGES

  2. Poor little Trooper, i’m so sick of the abuse that is going on concerning dogs, this is just horrendous. Bless CAMO Rescue group, without organizations like these more Troopers would perish without a chance.
