A concerned and compassionate woman used cellphone video to record her neighbor severely abusing his dog in Deuil-la-Barre (near Paris) France earlier in March; leading to the owner’s arrest. The disturbing video showed the four-year-old American Staffordshire terrier being kicked, punched and beaten with a stick as his owner cornered the defenseless dog in the corner of the balcony.
On March 10, the woman begged the man to stop – yelling from the window of her apartment, however the man ignored her pleas and continued to abuse the dog named Loco.
“I tried several times to get this man to stop by calling out, but it didn’t work… Seeing the man continue these acts, I took my phone and I filmed it,” the woman who wanted to remain anonymous told the rescue organization, Foundation 30 Millions d’Amis, who came to Loco’s rescue.
When authorities arrived at the man’s apartment, Loco was immediately taken into custody and was taken to their shelter in Seine-et-Marne. According to a statement by the organization, although the dog survived his owner’s ruthless attacks, Loco was reported to be in “bad shape overall.”
“He was probably beaten for a long time and had a number of scars, notably on his ears. We suspect he was burned with acid,” stated volunteers at the shelter where Loco was being treated and helped.
The dog’s owner has been charged with animal cruelty and is scheduled to appear in court in September 2017. Loco is now available for adoption. Contact the shelter at 01 64 00 15 45.
