The family of a 10-year-old Chihuahua are mourning the death of their dog after a neighbor allegedly waited for the dog’s owners to leave their home and then shot their dog.
According to the AJC News, neighbor Bennie Patterson has been charged with animal cruelty. A police report states Patterson admitted to shooting BBs at the elderly dog named Patches. The man claims he was just trying to scare the dog out of his backyard after Patches used his yard as a bathroom and tried to eat fish from a small pond on his property.
When Debbie Davenport returned home and found her dog, she rushed him to an emergency clinic, but had no choice but to humanely euthanize the little dog. An x-ray showed a BB in the dog’s abdomen.
“I don’t know what time he shot her, so I don’t know how many hours that she bled, and how many hours she suffered and was in pain,” Debbie told news reporters. “No matter what, she did not deserve that. He could’ve come to us and told us that she was bothering him. He could’ve complained to the HOA.”
Debbie admitted Patches had run loose about 3:00 on Friday afternoon, but she thinks Patterson waited for the couple to leave and then came into her own backyard to shoot her dog.
