The Hingham police have not solved the case of an abandoned Maltese found on the side of the road in his cage with his toys, food and a blanket. The two-year-old dog is currently in the care of the Animal Rescue League of Boston and reported to be doing fine, but he is not available for adoption yet.Hingham PD

According to the Hingham Police,  the unnamed pooch was found January 30 on Downer Avenue in Hingham, Massachusetts shivering, and although there have been several tips, none of the leads have not panned out. According to the Patriot Ledger, spokesperson Michael DeFina, for the Animal Rescue League of Boston, states he is an extremely friendly dog, is affectionate and loves receiving treats.

The Hingham Police posted the ten-pound dog’s photos on their Facebook page with the following plea:

“Recognize me? This dog was found in this cage with blanket, leash, food, dog coat and toys on side of road near 158 Downer Ave. at 11:19am today. Had been there less then an hour. It had no microchip.”

Since the announcement was posted, there have been more than 20,000 “shares” and 3,000 comments. Numerous offers to adopt the adorable pooch have been flooding in. In Massachusetts, abandoning an animal is a felony offense. There are many ways to help find a home for a pet you can no longer care for – including going to a local shelter, calling the police, or notifying a nearby rescue organization. It is never “okay” to leave a dog on the side of the road.Hingham PD2

  1. Well, I’m glad this dog was found in the first hour after his abandonment; but the owner had no way of knowing that; so they just left him there, not knowing if his fate would be terrible. No real concern for this dog; leaving a few toys and a blanket says to me that this dog was probably not abused, until now…but abandonment is abuse to me. The dog could have possibly starved to death. I hope they find the owner and charge them with this felony. (Abandonment is a felony in the state where this occurred.
