Terrible discovery at Virginia landfill
Spread the love

On Saturday, while disposing of trash at a landfill in Virginia, a man made a terrible discovery. According to the Martinsville Henry County SPCA, two abandoned puppies, weak, skeletal and in poor health, were found amongst the trash.

The two pups were in such poor condition that they could not stand – when the man tried to offer them food, they could not even open their mouths. Suffice to say, had they not been discovered, the puppies would have died at the landfill…no one the wiser to their pitiful situation.

Thankfully the man did find them and he took the time to pick them up and rush them to the shelter for care. The animal welfare agency recounted the urgent situation when the puppies arrived:

With veterinary offices closed, our executive staff made the decision to rush both puppies to an emergency vet. After evaluation, it was determined that the puppies were in late stages of starvation with the possibility of having ingested a toxic chemical. The veterinary office would have to provide IV fluids and nutrition and run tests for anti-freeze or rat bait; the next 48 hours would be critical to survival. The SPCA was delighted to hear that the tests came back negative for either toxic agent and the puppies have begun to respond to treatment.

The puppies have turned the corner and are showing signs of improvement, but they aren’t out of the woods. The shelter is seeking funds to help with the pups’ ongoing veterinary care. Donations can be made by phone (276-638-7297), online at http://www.spcamhc.org/form/donate, or by mail to 132 Joseph Martin Hwy Martinsville VA 24112.

Due to the conditions they were found in, the SPCA is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the abandonment of these puppies. If you have any information please call the SPCA at 276-638-7297 and speak with Nicole Harris or Catherine Gupton. You can also email [email protected].

  1. Keeping these pups in our prayers, bless the good Samaritan that picked them up and found them help, many would have turned a blind eye!

  2. Disgusting! Some people are just heartless and evil and should never be around animals. I would like to hog tie the human trash who abandoned the two puppies and throw this POS in the landfill. My prayers go out to the two pups for fully recovery and then adopt out to loving families. Many thanks to the good man who found the puppies and had the decency to take them to the SPCA for care.

  3. First of all, GIANT THANK YOU to the kind person who literally saved the life of two puppies – If not for him they would have died – and to the stink bag who dumped them – I would LOVE to hogtie this maggot and dump their useless butt in the same landfill – give them the same mercy they gave two innocent puppies – NONE!

  4. Seems when you read these stories, there are many good people who go out of their way to save these abandoned animals. Thanks to this man for saving them.

  5. I hope there weren’t other pups that were overlooked. Now it makes me wonder how many POS’s use the trash to throw away their pets that we’re not aware of. Just sends shivers throughout my body.

    • My thoughts exactly. It is a heartbreaking thought that precious little treasures like these two survivors are not beloved family members (& die alone, in pain, afraid and worst of all, unloved)

I pray that Saint Francis looks after these precious little treasures…….
