A man in Colorado not only left his dog alone in a parked car at the Durango Community Recreation Center on a warm summer day, but he duct-taped the dog’s snout closed as well. The disturbing incident resulted in the man being cited for cruelty to animals, reported The Journal.
The upsetting situation was discovered on July 18 when a group of friends noticed the dog inside of a parked vehicle and they snapped a photo and then alerted the authorities. Thanks to a photo of the car, and the license plate number, the authorities were able to locate the owner of the car.
A few days later, the dog’s owner, 23-year-old Thomas D. Ethridge was cited. Ethridge claims that he opted to tape the nine-month-old pup’s snout closed to prevent him from eating things inside of his car. The man told the authorities that he was living out of his car and had gone into the rec center to shower.
Ethridge claims that his dog, Appa, is aggressive and that he didn’t want the dog to jump out of one of the vehicle’s open windows to attack someone – the man will have to face his charge in court later this month. If he is convicted, he may lose custody of Appa and be hit with fines and time behind bars, reported KOB News.
