In West Valley City, Utah, the kindest man anyone would ever have the honor of knowing was alleged to have been a victim of a deliberate hit-and-run killing when he intervened after approaching a man beating a tiny Chihuahua. On Saturday evening, Aaron Hosman, 40, was arrested and booked into jail for the alleged murder of Jeremy Hardman on June 7 at the intersection of 3600 West 4100 South in West Valley City.

According to the Deseret News,   Hosman was taken to the Salt Lake County Jail and faces murder charges as well as obstruction of justice. Jeremy Hardman’s mother had been on vacation when the tragic incident occurred, but made a public plea to the suspect asking him to turn himself into police:

“I was so relieved and grateful for the work that West Valley Police have put into this,” Jeremy’s mother, Judy Cocker said. “It’s been a very hard ordeal to go through but to know that they care so much to keep looking so hard. In the blink of an eye the man has changed not only my life, taken my son’s life, but he’s changed his own life; none of us will ever be the same again.”

Judy said her son died a hero trying to protect a dog; a man who had always been an advocate for the defenseless and a true hero to all animals.

“We had rats, we had rabbits, we had cats, we had dogs, we had birds, we had hermit crabs. If it lived, he loved it,” Crocker said. “We were just best friends his whole life.”

As for Hosman, he has had a long history of traffic violations including a hit-and-run in 2013. Subsequent traffic offenses included failure to stop at a serious injury accident, a third-degree felony, and driving on a revoked license, class A misdemeanor. Additional charges included driving with a revoked license, using his brother’s identification and driving a vehicle with expired plates.

Hosman is scheduled to appear in court later this month.

  1. The STUPID UTAH Authorities Let this guy out!!! This BASTARD took a Man’s Life and would have Killed that poor little dog… DOESN”T the BOOK OF THE MORMAN MAKE PEOPLE accountable for That sort of Stuff or is it Just for the Non-Mormans to follow!!! This MAN DELIBERTLY KILLED A LIVING BEING !!!

  2. You beat a tiny dog – you’re a maggot scumbag. I have a newly adopted Chihuahua who was abused and suffered brain damage. I’d need just 2 minutes with you. Your little “brain” would be pulverized after i whacked off your nuts. My hammer would make mincemeat of your 3rd leg. What a scum sucking maggot douche bag.

      • Gizmo was my first forever dog who was 18 when he died. But I’ll always be Gizmo’s Mommy. My new little girl is Poppy. She weighs 5 pounds and was so abused. I just can’t imagine how anyone can abuse a defenseless animal.

  3. An angel was killed by a devil! Losing somebody like Jeremy is a loss for animal lovers, as well. I am just like Jeremy as my love for animals is extensive and I would have stopped and tried to protect the little dog that was being abused. There is a an angel in heaven, but wish he was still on earth. RIP!

  4. I’m wondering where the Chihuahua is,I hope this dog is still alive and in safe hands! Prayers to Mr. Hardmans family and friends!

  5. A good man and defender of the innocent lost his life because of this criminal. Aaron Hosman has shown he has NO regard for the law and obviously has no conscience! I hope he rots in prison and after that burns in Hell!

  6. I pray he suffers emense torture daily in prison and each and every day is his miserable life. I’d be honored to spend just 5 minutes alone with him…

  7. Sickened by this. First my condolences to the family of a hero. I wish the perp would receive the death penalty. I just read someone’s comments saying this evil barbarian bonded out? On a murder charge with a prior rap sheet? Does anyone know what happened to the little dog?

  8. Don’t know if Utah has the death penalty BUT Aaron Hosman is a perfect candidate for it – his criminal record speaks for itself and to deliberately run down Mr. Hardman who was trying to help an innocent animal being brutalized is beyond despicable. My deepest sympathies to Mr. Hardman’s family – he was a good man who cared about the defenseless.
