A tragic situation unfolded in Detroit, Michigan, on Monday after a stray dog began mauling a 53-year-old woman. According to Click On Detroit, the woman called out for help after the mixed-breed dog charged at her and dragged her out onto Goodwin Street.
A neighbor heard the plea for help and ran to the scene with his gun – in his attempt to help, the would-be good Samaritan inadvertently shot the woman several times. Detroit police Capt. Darin Szilagy commented on the tragic incident:
“Our resident, seeing this — he’s a CPL holder — came out of his home and engaged the dog. He fired an unknown number of shots to try to stop the attack. Unfortunately, during that action, the woman was struck.”
The dog at the heart of the tragedy was gone by the time that the authorities arrived – Captain Szilagy said, “We do believe that dog may have been wounded, and we have been canvassing the area to try to do due diligence to locate this animal.”
