A Fairmount Township, Pennsylvania man admitted to shooting his wife’s two dogs and then burning them in a barbecue pit after having a contentious argument last year. On Wednesday, in a plea deal with prosecutors, Steven Saxe, pleaded guilty to two misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty.

According to the Citizen’s Voice, the tragic events unfolded on the night of April 13, 2016 when Saxe threatened to shoot his wife and others with a gun after the couple argued. That night Saxe had burst into another home brandishing a 9mm pistol allegedly searching for Mike Bellinger, a friend of his wife. After threatening several people in the home, he left. Later that evening, Saxe was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, carrying a gun without a license, reckless endangerment and harassment.

The next day, Saxe’s wife, Noelle, called authorities reporting her two dogs, Elmo and Lucky missing, and she thought they had been killed. When authorities arrived, they found blood stains on the sidewalk and blood near the front door. Police found the charred bodies of the two dogs in a smoldering fire pit where he tried to dispose of their bodies by burning them so they wouldn’t be found. A necropsy performed revealed each dog had been shot in the head, shoulder and throat; one of the dog’s killed was a hound mix and the other was rescued Shih Tzu.

Saxe faces a maximum fine of $500 for the animal cruelty charges, but still faces four years in prison. Officials state they will ask Luzerne County Judge Joseph F. Sklarosky Jr. to impose a stiff penalty.  Saxe currently awaits trial for aggravated assault charges. Rest in peace Elmo and Lucky. We hope you find some justice.

  1. This Judge needs to rule the stiffest penalty by law. I hope he is incarcerated with prisoners that do not like animal abusers. Rest in peace Elmo and Lucky.

    • Judge depraved indifference toward the law, higher fines, jail time, and banned from being near any animal, hopefully his wife has removed him from her home and divorced his ugly soul!

      • Agree totally. Four years max prison time is NO where near enough for these egregious acts. ..and did I read they are calling these misdemeanors; how is this not felony or did I miss something.

    • I agree. The justice system doesn’t protect animals. We the animal activists need to form vigilante groups and give animal murderers and abusers street justice they won’t recover from and forget.

  2. $500 fine, yeah that really punishes him for killing his wife’s two dogs! I guess we have to hope for the “stiff penalty” for any justice. Hope the POS rots in jail!

  3. OMG & SMH……. If that POS were my husband, I would be on trial for “justified homicide”, HIS……. I would prefer being a widow in jail than remaining married to that POS……

Those poor furbabies……. RIP & sorry your murderer is not locked up for life……

Who is next? A person????? Serial killers usually get “started” on family pets before killing people…..

We have enough problems with our society & don’t need this POS……..

  4. RIP Lucky & Elmo. I know you trusted that a##hole and you loved him. I hope someone puts a bullet in that POS’ head (I was going to say “brain” but it’s obvious he doesn’t have one – or a heart). Thank God that my ex-husband wasn’t that vindictive. He decided to leave me while I was out of state BUT he stayed with the dogs until the day I was to return and then he left the house (after emptying all of our bank accounts). He could have easily dumped the dogs out in the country or take them to be euthanized. I told my mom that money can be replaced – the dogs can’t.

  5. Don’t let him get away with this….And to the wife…..Run don’t walk away from this cruel bastard…..Your probably next!!

  6. All animal abusers should be but aren’t prosecuted to the full extent of our laws, sadly they still aren’t treated with the same weight us humans barely are. There were laws in the late 19th century that protected them but our judges don’t seem to act on these harsher laws. We have judges who barely know our laws..

  7. Animal abuse is now a FEDERAL FELONY-LEVEL OFFENSE! Put this bastard away – out of “our” misery!
My heart breaks, knowing what those two precious souls went through at his hand..

  8. Ladies. you know when you are involved with a crazy, cowardly, vindictive waste of oxygen. You know. This woman got herself out of harm’s way, but apparently gave no thought to what he might do to her dogs. She betrayed them. Left them to be murdered by a monster. WHEN YOU LEAVE HIM TAKE THE PETS !! Let me say that again for the stupid bitches who pack their makeup and they cell phone, but think “I’ll come back for the pets.” TAKE THE PETS WITH YOU!! If you are afraid he will kill you, then you KNOW he will kill your pets. This is what cowardly, gonadless pieces of excrement do. They are to chicken-shit to attack you so they kill your pets. HE pulled the trigger. YOU left them there. And just in case, if you have crappy taste in men, DON’T have pets and DON’T have kids. You chose to stay with a monster. They didn’t . They trusted you. YOU FAILED.

  9. PLEASE MAKE THE PUNISHMENT FIT THE CRIME!! this made me sick this man is a monster
he needs to be off the streets.to kill the innocent is cruelty> please give the max plus sentence
