What could be more surprising when Joel McDonald opened his front door on Tuesday and saw a dog waiting there very similar in appearance to his lost shepherd, Molly who disappeared four years ago?
“I didn’t know for sure, but I thought it,” the Rowan County, North Carolina man told WBTV News late last week. “And she just came and put her head in my lap and I said, ‘Oh my.'”
Although Joel was pretty sure the dog was Molly, he took her to Animal Care Center of Salisbury to have her microchip checked, and when the attendant looked up at Joel confirming the identity of the German shepherd as Molly, he was absolutely convinced. When the dog disappeared, Joel and Carolyn McDonald searched for her for weeks, but eventually gave up hope of ever seeing their best friend again.
The happy family has now been reunited, and although Joel has asked Molly where she has been, he says she just won’t answer.
Welcome home Molly. And another reason to never give up hope.

If only Molly could tell them where she has been for 4 years. Did come “good Samaritan” take her in and not try to find her family? She certainly doesn’t look like she has been running loose all these years. What a wonderful surprise for her family to open the door and have their long lost pet standing there.
Talk about a miracle! Thank goodness the owners didn’t move away. Molly, where have you been?? I’m so glad you found your way back to where you belong.
Some Person for some Reason unknown to anyone but them took this lovely lady… She either escaped and made her way home to the ONE’s she loved or they brought her back…. I am so happy Her Loved one’s were still there to Greet and Welcome her home!!!!
Very Happy to Hear this. Thank God for Showing the Shepard the way Home. There is a God.
How fantastic is that such a lovely story it just goes to show the love that Molly had for her owners and them for her nice to hear a happy ending bless her
amazing to read this, truly says a lot of dogs being aware of their surroundings and their loved ones.
We need more happy endings like this – especially when the animal comes back healthy. Just one more case in favor of having your furbabies microchipped. I have indoor-only cats and even they have microchips, since you never know when one might slip out an open door. I’m so happy for Molly and her family.
…and the little lamb finds her way home.
wagging her tail behind her.
[…] An amazing reunion – dog returns home after four years. Read the story here. […]
Thank God she found her way home and she seems to be ok.
Almost 60 years ago we had a cat show up at our house and spend a few months. He stayed outside. He disappeared one day. Over 10 years later he appeared again and stayed for one day and then moved on. We knew it was the same cat because of a bizarre looking mark he had on his otherwise white body. I guess he was a hobo and I was just a child. I do things differently than my late parents. I would have kept him indoors or found him a good, permanent home.
Wow fours years gone and now found. So happy, happy.
Well, that story made my eyes “leak”. A wonderful “tail”.
god bless you both enjoy each other
