In Long Island, New York, a woman was charged with two charges of  animal cruelty and abandonment on Sunday for allegedly leaving her two-year-old Shih Tzu in a metal cage on the side of a highway.

According to Chief Roy Gross of the Suffolk County SPCA, a passerby spotted the dog sitting in its cage perched on a guardrail on the south side of Sunrise Highway in Babylon on April 14. The good Samaritan picked up the severely matted dog and brought it to a veterinary clinic. With the public’s help, the investigation led to the arrest of Yvette O’Connor, 39.

O’Connor is scheduled to appear in First District Court in Central Islip on July 17.

“Animal cruelty will not be tolerated in Suffolk County,” Chief Roy Gross said. “The real hero here is the good Samaritan who found the dog and took it to a clinic.”

  1. I hope they throw the book at her for 2 reasons….one for not taking care of the little pups veterinary needs and the other for leaving the precious pup on the highway, probably scared to death…

  2. NOW IF the Chief I REALLY an UPSTANDING OFFICER and CITIZEN HE will MAKE DAMN SURE THIS POS BITCH NEVER OWNS A S much as A MAGGOT in HER ENTIRE LIFE SPAN ( WHICH HOPEFULLY will be a SHORT ONE)!!! Kudos!!! to the person who picked this little one up and saw it was SAFE!!!

    • Roy Gross and his wife are like batman and robin in suffolk county, More people are sitting out prison terms in Riverhead long island for crimes against animals In Suffolk County then Naussa County and Queens. In Suffolk Every one is entered into the NY as well as the New FBI animal Abuse database. Suffolk County SPCA is progressive in conviction and Nothing Gets by this Knight in Shining Armor.

  3. Well hopefully if “animal cruelty will not be tolerated” then Chief Gross and the courts will make this MONSTER pay. She is useless, worthless, and needs karma to get her in addition to the courts!!

  4. Why wait until July making it possible for her to leave the State.

This abuser needs to be locked in a cage i.e. 3 hots and a cot motel.

  5. what an asshole!! I hope she get jail time but I know she wont. The sentence should at least include never being able to own a pet ever again.. Scumbags like that do not care about the welfare of animals so she should never be allowed to be around them.

  6. So what was the reason to abandon this poor dog like this? Yvette O’Connor needs a punishment worthy of the crime, lets put her in a crate and leave her by the side of the road and see how she likes it!

  7. Look at how Quickly, Suffolk County Folk Gave up a name and a where abouts.

Chief Roy Gross and The suffolk County Police must have scared the shit out of her when they came banging on her door.
Roy Gross you are one busy guy. You dont put up with any of it.
You are truly the champion of the Long Island Under Dogs.

  8. I wish people would know when they have a dog ? It’s their responsibility to take care of it! I HATE humanity sometimes …

  9. This makes me so mad and sad here this knuckle head had a beautiful dog and my boys and I trying to get one but pricey smh I can’t stand this!! Hopefully the dog gets a much better home
    ❤️

  10. I hope Chief Roy Gross keeps his word! Obviously the dog was severely neglected….matted fur. Bad karma must follow ALL animal abusers!

      of an animal police man

    • Hi Linda I just wanted to tell you I am about to be 14 and I am a daughter of the 7 kids she had. I wanted to tell you and all the other people that the reason she did what she did to that dog was because I was the one who took care of that dog. And not to long before she did that to the dog me and my siblings was taken from her by foster care so there was nobody but her to take care of the dog i’m not saying it’s right for her to do cause it’s not. But I think that something worse could have happened to that dog because she is a drug addict and she liked to get drunk and have fist fights with her boyfriend then call the cops on him. So even though she was a animal abuser she had a lot of stuff happen to her like she got jumped and they broke her leg and her husband left her because if he came back to long island he would be arrested. And her kids was taken from her and she had to live on food stamps when me and my siblings lived with her. But when me and my siblings would visit her at the library she would never show up which made me and my younger brother very sad but now I live with her brother/My uncle who just finished adopting us and now he is down to just me and my younger brother cause my 3 older siblings ran away because they were racist towards my uncle and my 2 older brothers left to live with my aunt so that’s the story of our life.

  11. Yvette O’Connor needs to have her ugly head stuffed in a toilet and flushed over and over and over. She is a despicable vile bitch and I hope Chief Ron Gross lives up to his reputation for the safety of animals. We need many many more officers like him. Thanks to the good Samaritan who rescued this little dog and may this abused and abandoned animal get the safe loving home he definitely never had. Man – I’d LOVE five minutes with this subhuman c-nt.

  12. Glad this POS was found and punished. She will burn in Hell forever for her cruelty to this little treasure……

At least she left this little treasure in a crate and in an “obvious place” to be found (as opposed to running loose by the side of a busy freeway where she would have been run over or hidden in the woods where she would have been a potential “prey item” to snakes, cougers, coyotes, large birds of prey…..)…..

I do NOT condone her actions, I absolutely think what she did was terrible but I am very glad a Good Samaritan found this little treasure and got her help…….

I hope this little treasure heals completely and is rehomed into a new furever home where she will be a beloved and treasured family member!!!
