Update: Bessie is has a foster home (with the intent to adopt!).
A beautiful senior, known to be her beloved owner’s “Little Shadow,” is alone – with no one to follow, after her person was admitted to a hospice facility. The 10-year-old dog, named “Bessie,” is currently at the Brookhaven Shelter in Long Island, New York.
Her advocate has described the heartbreaking situation:
Even though she was a large dog, she was known as her owner’s little shadow, staying close by her side, in sickness or in health, Bessie never strayed- but when her owner, ill and barely able to walk, went to hospice…that was one place….Bessie couldn’t go.
Bessie is said to be housebroken and “great on a leash.” It is believed that she would do best with another calm and/or senior dog (meet and greet is required).
Note: Bessie is available through Brookhaven’s foster program, where all medical if needed will be covered. She is also available for adoption.
Brookhaven shelter is now open 7 days a week- their hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 9:30-4, Thursday 9:30-8, Saturday 10-4 and Sunday 11-4
Dogs do bonded, they had to find a home together. Read more here.
Hope the dog is ok
