If a little emaciated pup could talk, surely he would tell everyone that Santa Claus is real. Rescued just before Christmas Eve by Rescue Dogs Rock NYC, little Nicholas’ story could bring tears to the eyes of even the most stoic.

According to the New York City Animal Care Center, the two-year-old dog was picked up as a stray by police. Nicholas was so matted, he was unable to walk and had leaves and dirt deeply embedded in his coat. The dog’s left eye had been completely matted over, making it impossible for the counselor to even find his eye. The emaciated and lethargic pup could barely move; his body score was rated a “1” out of “9”.

“Subjective: Dog is QAR/depressed
Observed Behavior – dog lays quietly in cage, attempts to wag tail. Allows all handling, but may just be because too weak to resist,” wrote the shelter in a plea for an approved rescue organization to save this little dog.”

Jackie O’Sullivan, co-founder of Rescue Dogs Rock NYC responded and posted the photo of the dog with the following caption:

“CAN YOU IMAGINE?! What kind of living hell did Nicholas come from? We shudder to think! This poor baby is only 2-3 years old. What a horror his life has been.
Nicholas is on his way out of the shelter & en route to a 24/7 vet where he will get the round the clock care he needs. Please pray as he is in very bad shape.”

And this morning on Christmas Eve, Nicholas is receiving expert care in a 24-hour emergency hospital and being treated with intravenous fluids. He barely weighs seven pound –  he should weigh twice that amount. Every rib and bone in his body is visible and easily felt – clearly he has nearly been starved to death. In addition, he was covered in fleas and shaking from fear when he arrived at the hospital.

Surely there is a Santa Claus. To help:

  1. ENOUGH !! if you would not / can not Love them, Taking Care of them, Save them, PRotect them, Feed them, Taking care of their Health………………etc.etc….. Then do not Adopt them !!!! it is Simple like this…. DO NOT !!!

  2. WTF is wrong with so-called people? How do they leave a dog in this condition and can’t even take him to the shelter saying you found him” Barely wandering around due to matting, dirt and leaves on his feet and legs. Thank god he was rescued by police and RDR of NYC have rescued this tiny dog. He will need a lot of care, but he will survive and become a loving, valued member of his new family.

  3. Hope he pulls through. Glad he is in good hands with a great organization. Merry Christmas little guy. Remember don’t shop, adopt!!

  4. Hopefully this little guy will make it!!! Our Society here in America is becoming more and more toxic on a daily basis!! Drugs , thugs, and brutality are becoming a way of life for many of our youth to cherish. This is not the way I grew up some 60 years ago. So in my thoughts this Christmas the past was a much nicer more caring, thoughtful generation than what our Society has to look forward to in the future!!! Progress this is NOT!!

  5. Nicholas is only alive because of Rescue Dogs Rock NYC – they were the gift of life for him. I am no fan of NYCACC and believe they would have done nothing but euthanize rather than treat him. Anyway, I hope Nicholas completely recovers and finds the safe loving home he was previously denied.
