Two weeks ago, a dog dubbed “Caci” was beaten and left to die. The smokey gray pit bull’s head was unimaginably swollen – nobody knows for sure what happened to Caci, but there have been reports that her severe injuries are the result of being beaten with a bat.
Fortunately, much has changed for Caci – in the time that has passed since the painful day that she was discovered, the swelling in her head has all but disappeared. On April 15, New York Bully Crew, the rescue agency which has stepped up to raise funds for her ongoing veterinary care, updated Facebook followers about Caci’s current condition:
It is DAY 13 of treatment. #Caci is getting Wet to Dry dressing changes as part of her wound care. This aids in the debridement and removal of the dead skin and in turn promotes healing. Caci’s necrotic, dead tissue from her injuries is falling off as it should, but it leaves huge open wounds. These wounds still need to be cleaned and treated daily with dressing changes so infection doesn’t set in. She still has a road ahead of her, but we will all be beside #Caci on her journey!!
Thank you to all that have prayed, supported and contributed to Caci’s wellbeing thus far. Your well wishes have carried her along this past week.
The goal is to move Caci from her current location in Puerto Rico, to New York – but she must continue to recover before the transport can happen. To help support Caci’s ongoing treatment, donations are being collected here.
